JOHN E. PRESTON

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- John Edward Preston (Jack), 85, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013. Jack was an eight month resident of Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital in Norfolk. Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the middle son of Cora Ashburner Preston and Lester Ware Preston.

Jack grew up in Wilmington, NC, and then went on to live in Columbia, SC, for 45 years, before moving to VA Beach in 2009. Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a 1st LT. He went on to spend a career in mortgage insurance and finance. Jack's wife of 57 years, Jane Sprunt, passed away in 2011. He is survived by his son John E. Preston Jr.; daughter Jane P. Greer, VA Beach, son-in-law Robert A. Greer, VA Beach; grandchildren John E. Preston III, William H. Preston, Emeline F. Greer, Lydia P. Greer and Anna A. Greer. The family would like to thank the staff of Lake Taylor for their loving and patient care. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital.

Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I am a volunteer at Lake Taylor and would visit with Jack on Wednesdays. Also, had the opportunity to go shopping at Pembroke Mall & share lunch. He was so much fun to be around. I will truly miss him.
