Jon Steffey Obituary

JON R. STEFFEY

JULY 1, 1946- JUNE 10, 2009

For the final time on Earth, Jon Raleigh Steffey, lovingly and gently kissed his "Little Princess" and, said, as he always did each time either of them left the house, "I love you! Be careful!" With contentment and joy in his spirit and soul, Jon said good-bye to his wife, Lorna Sue LaBelle-Steffey, on June 10, 2009.

Jon was born to Mary Ellen and Robert Steffey (both deceased) on July 1, 1946, in Coldwater, Michigan. He and Lorna (Sue) were married on January 27, 1999, in Alexandria, Virginia, and, again, on July 30, 1999, in Coldwater, Michigan. The couple lived joyfully in Alexandria, Virginia, before moving, permanently, to Wilmington in 2004.

During his life in Alexandria and Wilmington, Jon, ever-giving and humble, was deeply cherished and admired by his wife and many "families" - his neighborhood "families", his Home Depot "family" (where he was employed at the time of his death), and his Pine Valley Elementary School "family".

Jon is survived by his wife, Lorna Sue Labelle-Steffey and his "sweet babies", "Bailey Boo" and "Hurley Too" all of Wilmington; Pam Lippert (sister), Holly Kelly and Becky Gonzalez (nieces) and Belicia Gonzalez (great-niece), Andrew and Jessica AcMoody (children), Greg Ware and Michelle Hulliberger (step-children), all of whom reside in Michigan.

A celebration of Jon's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Jon's Memory Garden, the New Hanover Humane Society, 2405 North 23rd Street, Wilmington, NC, 28401, the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA, 23058, or Carolina Organ Procurement.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com.

In the short time that we knew Jon, we are sure there was no finer man in Wilmington. It was always such a joy when he would come in the store on his way to pick up Sue. Our hearts and prayers go out to Sue and the rest of the family. He will truly be missed!

Jon's smile and elfish grin made me smile. When we talked about common interests his favorite expression was always " Oh well ". We all will miss his comentaries on life at HD and his expertise to help answer those wierd questions that customers came up with.
His memory will be with us always.

To my best friend,

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Bailey Boo and Hurley.

Whenever I was with the both of you, the love that Jon showed for you was phenomenal - love that everyone should experience in their lifetime.

As Jon was getting ready to move to Alexandria he had a little gray and white problem that has to be taken care of. I was invited over to his house in Coldwater - there was Lorna with a kitty litter pan, food and Jon with a long haired gray and white cat -with no teeth called Smokey. Well after hearing Jon tell the story that as a bat was flying through the house and Smokey coming out of no where - jumped up and caught the bat - and of course Jon adding to the story - how could I not take the toothless cat home. Jon always asked about Smokey and we would then have a good laugh about the toothless cat and the bat.

Thank you Lorna and Jon for showing me that two people can find one another and love one another so deeply.
