Mildred Cherry Holden

MILDRED CHERRY HOLDEN Mildred Cherry Holden, a retired public school teacher, passed away on July 26, 2014, at the age of 89 years. She lived most of her adult life in Holden Beach, North Carolina. Born April 25, 1925, in Gaston County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William Otis and Ethel Abernathy Cherry. Mildred graduated from Belmont High School, Belmont, North Carolina. She earned an Associate in Arts diploma from Mars Hill Junior College, a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University, a Master of Arts degree from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt, and she studied one summer at Radford College, Radford, Virginia. Survivors include her husband, James Cecil Holden, Sr., and their children and spouses respectively: Jim and K.C. (Chubb) Holden, Marston Holden, Majannah H. and Jeff Turlington, and Cecile Holden. Surviving grandchildren are Jameson Holden, Ryan Holden, Daryl Turlington, and Trisha Turlington. She is survived by one sister, Helen (Bunny) C. Allman and predeceased by her other sister, Mozelle C. Smith and their children. The family will receive friends and relatives at Sabbath Home Baptist Church Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. followed immediately by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. with Reverend Wade McLamb and Reverend Foyd Bennett officiating. Graveside service will follow at the Holden Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Trisha Turlington, Daryl Turlington, Ryan Holden, Rendell Allman, David Allman, and Greg Holden. Honorary pallbearers Jameson Holden, Tammy Parra, Vann Pyatte, Wayne Holden, Brenda Dempsey, Danny Galloway, David Lewis, and Grover Holden.
