I taught many years across the hall from Mozelle. Found her to be a great person and when she became the head of our biology department, I think she elevated all of us with her expectations. Became friends and enjoyed exchanging Christmas gifts with her every year. One of the reasons was her Piña Colata cake. My daughter and I would visit her from time to time and we usually exchanged goodies at Thanksgiving. She was a great teacher and someone other teacher's could look up to. She was absolutely firm but fair. We will miss her.

Mrs.Smith was my biology teacher 1961/62 at New Hanover. She was outstanding, but "tough" as some have indicated. As most would agree, she did not like disruption of her class.A LITTLE STORY--Several athletes were to go out of town for a ballgame, and the bus was waiting at Brogden Hall, and they left without us.Our duty to be on the bus on time.We got to the game site by private auto. The coaches could not believe she would not allow us to leave the class.Coach Brogden indicated later to have spoken to her, later, but he just shook his head, not much said. No problem going forward, but she could be a little cold with us at times after the fact. But,we loved and appreciated her qualities as a "GREAT TEACHER".Sorry to learn of Mrs. Smith passing....

During your mother's day, Hoggard was filled with an instructional staff of exceedingly competent and caring people. She was one of the best, and her students knew it. You should be very proud!
Love and prayers for a life so well lived.

Mrs. Smith was my biology teacher my freshman year at Hoggard High Sch-Class of '76. I was so honored when she asked me to be her Teacher Assistant my sophomore year. I saw her in recent years when she volunteered at the hospital. Almost 40 yrs later I still have a thank you gift she gave me of kissing angels in appreciation for being her Teacher Assistant. She was a lovely lady and teacher that I will always think of fondly.
Sorry for you loss.

I was so sorry to hear from Dan about your mother...but she is in a much better place than we are.
While I never had your mother as a teacher - science was never my stong point - several of my friends did. Reading the eulogies they wrote must be a comfort on some level to you at a time like this. She touched many lives which is what every teacher goes into education to do.
On a personal note, I appreciate the support she gave my father during 70's. They were rough times and support like your mother's was greatly needed and appreciated.
Also, even though Sheba was your Dad's dog - or so it seemed - I'm sure it was your Mom that supplied the home that she lived in and enjoyed daily.
I may not see you tomorrow, but I will be there in thoughts and prayers. And I'm sure Mama, Daddy, Booty, and your Mother are sharing stories, laughing and reliving the joy it was to raise the 4 of us - especially Dan and Lyle.
God Bless Us Everyone!

Mrs. Smith was my biology teacher at NHHS my sophomore year - I graduated 1966. She was a wonderful teacher. She always gave her best to her students and expected the same from them. She was a model teacher.

Extraordinary teacher. Tough but fair. Had Mrs Smith twice ... Biology as a sophomore and Adv Bio as a senior 83/84. Will never forget this woman . I have used her "6 legs on the floor rule" with my own children for years. Sorry to hear of one of the great one's passing.

I remember sitting in Mrs. Smith's Advanced Biology class in 1972 and thinking that she was the hardest teacher that I ever met. But then as a college freshman in the fall of 1973 I was very thankful for her tough but fair treatment of her students and her wonderful teaching. I sat in my college general biology class and used everything that I had learned from Mrs. Smith. The biology book stayed in the plastic wrapper for the entire semester as I earned my "A" based on what
Mrs. Smith had so faithfully taught in that high school classroom at Hoggard. I have fond memories of meeting her many years later when her young great niece was a student as the preschool where I was teaching. Her love for life and learning was still so very evident then. Mrs. Smith was a wonderful teacher, mentor and example for her students. Thank you Mrs. Smith for your investment in me and so many other students.

When I was younger me and her never got along. I always thought she was one of those mean teachers. But later in life I learned how sweet and kind she really was. Because of her I am a Certified Medical Assistant. Thank you for all you taught me. My prayers are with the family.

Mrs. Smith left a strong and memorable impression on many of us who passed through her biology classes at Hoggard. We learned about biology in depth and to this day I still remember concepts that she taught in her class in 1974.

She was my biology teacher at Hoggard in 1982. One of the best teachers I ever had. She expected nothing but the best from her students. She touched many lives.
