Norman Swain Obituary

NORMAN ROCKWELL SWAIN Norman Rockwell Swain, 73, of Burgaw went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Life Care Hospitals of North Carolina in Rocky Mount. He was born December 9, 1940 in Brunswick County, the son of the late Daniel Rockwell and Lyda Danford Swain. Also lovingly remembered are his wife of 22 years who died in 2002, Terri Rivenbark Swain; sisters, Florence Lewis and Ada Mae McNeill; brothers, Lesley Swain and Leon Swain; and special friend, Jack Dillingham. Norman is survived by his wife of ten years, Nellie Marie Chadwick Swain; daughters, Kim Swain Costabile (Michael) and Carmen Swain Williams (Carlos); son, Aaron Swain (Sarah); step-daughter, Chyrli Brinkle (Don); grandchildren, Brianne Hastings, Chloe Williams, Chase Williams, Emma Swain and Molly Swain; one great-grandbaby, Baby Hastings due in March; sister, Shirley Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norman was retired from C. P. & L. and Pender County School System. He was a faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church where he served as a great source of encouragement and good Christian example to the youth as well as adults. Norman was a loving husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. As Norman's children were growing up he took an active role in their activities; many years coaching little league ball teams and never missing ball games even when he was not coaching. On the college level he was an avid UNC Tar Heels fan. He was a true Southern gentleman who loved and gave unselfishly to his Lord, his family and his community. Norman's memory is cherished and will not be forgotten. Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Forest Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall until hour of the service. Memorial gifts may be given to Forest Hill Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 2711 Penderlea Hwy, Burgaw, NC 28425. Condolences may be sent to www.quinnmcgowen.com
