Penny Newhouse Obituary

PENNY LIMA NEWHOUSE

Penny Lima Newhouse, 68 of Wilmington passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at home following several years of declining health.

She was born on April 11, 1943 in Brownsville, PA, the only child of the late Theodore Lima and Alice Kerfoot Lima.

Penny was a graduate of Hood College, in Frederick, Maryland. Before retiring and moving to Wilmington with her husband, Wesley H. "Wes" Newhouse in 1995, she taught at The Cushman School, a private elementary school in Miami, FL.

After arriving in Wilmington, Penny became an active volunteer in several organizations and served for more than twenty years in various roles including at St John's Museum and the Cameron Art Museum, Chair of the Docents and member of the Board of Trustees. She was also deeply involved at the Bellamy Mansion, was Chair of the Bellamy Mansion Museum Board of Directors and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina.

Penny was predeceased by her beloved husband "Wes" in 2006 and four-legged pal, Ellie Mae, in 2010. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday the 16th at First Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow at Bellamy Mansion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bellamy Mansion Museum, 503 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
