Richard F. Sandlin

1928 - 2018

RICHARD F SANDLIN (DICK) Richard F Sandlin (Dick) died on July 19th, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice following a brief illness. Dick was born on February 20th 1928 to the late Julius Sandlin and Evelyn Calhoun Sandlin. He was preceded in death by his wife Colleen Gann Sandlin, a brother Jerry Sandlin, two sisters, Delores Eubanks and Margie Willis, half-brother Julius Sandlin and two half-sisters Edith Sanderlin and Eleanor Braddy. He served in the US Navy for 21 years. Serving in both World War II and the Korean War and received the Bronze Star, among many other metals, before retiring as Chief Quartermaster in 1966. After retirement he embarked on a brief career in law enforcement before finding his niche in the photo finishing business. He is survived by two daughters, Debra Sandlin of Lakeland, Fl., Cindy Stout (John) of Hampstead, NC. Two brothers, Phil Sandlin (Johnsie) of Gainesville, Fl., and Cratie Sandlin (Gail) of Datil, NM. A sister-in-law, Hilda Simon. His beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called him DDaddy, Justin Stout and Kenzie Matthews (Adam), many nieces and nephews as well as close and cherished friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday July 26th at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel from 6-8pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Dean Karras and all the staff at New Hanover Medical Specialist, his caregiver, Carrie Bennett, neighbor Sheila Guizard and his "Best Friends" Teresa and Tony Goodwin for the wonderful care and companionship throughout the years.
