Violet Denton Obituary
Violet Register Denton, 89, of Wilmington, NC, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born on December 4, 1922, in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Charles and Lunnie Yopp Register. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty years, Russell Denton, in 1985.
Mrs. Denton was a devoted WIBC bowler for over forty years, during which time she served as the Secretary of numerous leagues continuing until 2011. Violet was an avid NASCAR fan whose favorite driver was Jimmie Johnson. She never missed the chance to watch a race, including this past weekend's Daytona 500. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally and reserved a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Kay Best and husband, Merrell (Statesville, NC), Lynn Woodcock and husband Charles (Burgaw, NC); four grandchildren, Gena Hilger and husband Billy (Seneca, SC), David Best and wife Kellie (Mooresville, NC), Susan Horne (Wilmington, NC) and Lisa Best (Statesville, NC); and four great-grandchildren, Sydney and Gavin Hilger, Liam and Janson Best. Mrs. Denton also has five siblings, Charlene Farrar and husband Herbert (deceased), Charles Register, Jr. (deceased) and wife Gerrie, John Register (deceased), Aaron Register (deceased) and wife Carolyn, and Roland Register and wife Betty Jo. Also surviving are all of her special nieces and nephews, extended family members and many friends, especially Pat and Jeff Nicol.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, March 2, 2012 at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at Andrews Market Chapel with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or to COPD Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Ave., Suite 302, Miami, FL 33133 or to the charity of one's choice.

I had the absolute pleasure of caring for Ms Violet & fell completely in love with her. She was a sweet, loveable, easy to talk to & caring woman & I will miss her very much. Gena, I'm so sorry for this loss to your family. You will see her again someday just how you remember her best.
