David Spillman Obituary

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. David Russell Spillman, age 73, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
The Richmond, Indiana, native was the son of a pastor and moved along with his parents to several cities with his ministry.
He was a graduate of Edison Junior College in Ft. Myers, Fla., and a veteran of the United States Navy and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Spillman moved to Statesboro in the early 1970s and continued his education at Georgia Southern College.
He was employed at Sea Island Bank from 1973 until 1985 and worked for First Bulloch Bank (BB&T) for 15 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Statesboro, the Kiwanis Club and Lions Club.
David loved fishing, traveling, tinkering at the hanger, cooking, attending his grandchildren's events and gardening.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon.
He did complete his undergraduate degree at Georgia Southern University in 2010. He then began another career at Georgia Southern University as a business manager in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Dwight Cleveland and Thelma Russell Spillman.
Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Debra Robertson Spillman of Statesboro; one daughter and son-in-lawm Amy and Jim Winskie of Statesboro; three sons and a daughter-in-lawm Robert and Dawn Spillman of Tampa, Fla.; Scott Standridge of Statesboro and Chas Standridge of Charleston, S.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Tom Stidham of Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren whom he was known as "Pop" to, Hunter Brown, Maddie Grace Brown, Avery Winskie, Liza Standridge, Charlee Standridge and Sydney Standridge. Sveral nieces and nephews also survive.
A gathering of friends will be held on Friday from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Statesboro Perry Fellowship Hall.
A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
