Debra Pfeffer Obituary

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Debra Carol Pfeffer, 60, of Statesboro, Georgia, died at 6:14 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Ogeechee Area Hospice Center in Statesboro, Georgia, after a nearly three-year battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Debra was born on September 16, 1953, in Batesville, Arkansas, daughter of the late Sylvia (Powell) Graddy and W.C. Graddy.
She was a graduate of Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Ga., 1971, attended Georgia Southern College and graduated with honors from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, 1976, where she earned her BS in nursing. She started her career on the neurology floor of Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. She worked at various hospitals before devoting her time to raising her family. From 1996 through 2005, she worked as a home health aide for NY Health Care in the Hudson Valley, before moving to Georgia to care for her mother full-time.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her three daughters, and will be remembered fondly as a wonderful mother, Oma, friend and teacher. Her daughters will forever remember the elaborate holiday festivities she planned: the tablescapes and decor, the feasts and especially the cookies. Her sausage gravy and creative cakes will be missed by countless of her daughters' friends throughout the United States and Europe.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three daughters, Michelle, Caroline, Jacqueline, and son-in-law, Sean; two grandchildren, Jax and Celina; aunt and uncle, Polly and Floyd Powell of Indiana; several honorary children, a dog and two cats.
As per her wishes, her life will be celebrated at private memorials with family and friends throughout the United States. She has requested that you spend an evening around the table with those you love.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Debra's name to Ogeechee Area Hospice, who provided incredible care and support to Debra and her family throughout her final days, at Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459; or online at www.oahospice.org.
