Edward Charles Deal

Edward Charles Deal, age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Edward was born in Cobbtown and attended Metter High School, where he played basketball. He moved to Brooklet in 1968 and lived there until his death. Edward worked for several years with the Georgia Power Company before starting his career with the Roger Wood Company, where he worked from 1965 until his retirement in 1982. He was of the Baptist faith and was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved to work in his vegetable garden.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Bedford and Lillie Mae Hendrix Deal; wives, Gladys Sikes Deal and Corine Woods Deal; sons, Danny M. Deal and Charles R. Deal; daughter, Joyce Fountain; stepdaughter, Patricia Richard; brothers, Francis Earl Deal and Billy Deal.
Mr. Deal is survived by his daughter-in-law, Jennie Deal of Portal; stepdaughters, Gail Murray, and her husband, David, of Statesboro; Debra Wothe, and her husband, Patrick, of Meldrim; stepson, Dean Rigdon, and his wife, Joyce, of Brooklet; brothers, Gwen Attebery, and his wife, Stephanie; and Buddy Attebery, and his wife, Linda, all of Metter; sisters, Gertrude Colson, and her husband, Jimmy, of Metter; Helen Jones, and her husband, Willard, of Metter; Willie Mae Hart, and her husband, Don, of Guyton; and Shelby Jean Frizzelle, and her husband, Dick, of North Carolina; special friend, Julie Rose Hodges of Brooklet; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017, in Sunlight Church Cemetery in Cobbtown with the Reverend Hal Burke officiating.
