Mary Hill Obituary

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Mary Virginia "Jenny" Groover Hill, age 90, died at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a graduate of Statesboro High School and attended Wesleyan College and the University of Georgia. Mrs. Hill was a member and active in many organizations in Statesboro, including the Statesboro First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Methodist Women, Dreta Sharpe Circle, Spade and Trowel Garden Club, Statesboro Service League and the Delta Delta Delta Sorority at UGA. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, friends and attending University of Georgia football games. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Pratt "Tiny" Hill Jr.; her parents, Samuel Edwin and Willie Lee Olliff Groover; her grandparents, Samuel and Ella V. Groover and John W. and Mary Lee Olliff; and two brothers, John Olliff Groover and Samuel Edwin Groover Jr.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, Walker Pratt and Marilyn Hill III, Edwin Groover and Anita Hill, Randy Frank and Vicki Hill and James Lee Hill, and his friend, Lillian Akers Brown, all of Statesboro; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a special friend to Mrs. Hill and her family for over 63 years, Carrie Lee Robbins of Sylvania; and Mrs. Hill's caretaker, Carol Thomas of Statesboro.
A visitation will be held at the Statesboro First United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 12:15-1:15 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Statesboro First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery and will be private.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Samuel Bayne Hill, Mitchell Edward Hill, Walker Pratt Hill IV, Alexander James Hill and George Walker Hill.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459; or to the Statesboro First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 101 South Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
