Terrell Allen "Toby" Nesmith

Terrell Nesmith Obituary

Former Bulloch County resident, Terrell Allen "Toby" Nesmith, 69, went home to be with his Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, Dec. 07, 2017, at his home in Pocomoke City, Maryland.
He was born in Statesboro on April 8th, 1948, to Dexter and Addie Mae Nesmith.
Toby was a devoted family man, placing them before all other things in his life. He embraced the role of father figure for not only his children but their friends, who could frequently be found spending time at the Nesmith family home. The resounding sentiment from many upon learning of his death was, "Toby was a father figure or role model to me and I loved him."
Toby served four years in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Edson, DD-946, seeing combat action in Vietnam between 1966 and 1970. He later joined the Georgia Army National Guard, where he retired after more than 20 years of combined service.
He is survived by his brother, Marlin Nesmith, Danni Caulifeld, June Evans, Mickey Nesmith and their spouses.
He has one deceased sibling, Dennis Nesmith.
He is also survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma L. Nesmith; and his children and their spouses, Timothy P. and Eide R. Nesmith, Tamara N. and Raymond E. Thompson, Joseph T. Nesmith; and seven grandchildren, Christopher T. Thompson, Joshua T. Nesmith, Katelyn M. Thompson, Jacob R. Nesmith, Haleigh N. Nesmith, Caleb W. Nesmith, Matthew Reed; and many others who looked to him as their role model.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 16th, 2017, at the National Guard Armory in Statesboro, Georgia, 18934 U.S. Highway 301 North.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Toby's service to his country: https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517; (855) 448-3997, in memory of SFC Terrell Allen Toby Nesmith, 402 Market Street, Pocomoke City, Maryland, 21851.
