Alex PUTNAM Obituary

PUTNAM, Alex David Alex David Putnam, 25, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2017. He was born in Austin on October 8, 1991, to David and Tina Moore Putnam. Devoted son, loving husband, beloved brother and loyal friend, Alex was known for his easygoing nature and his infectious smile. He attended Bridgepoint Elementary School and West Ridge Middle School, where he formed life-long friendships. At Westlake High School, he was a proud member of the Chaparral football team, and he cherished memories of playing in the UIL AAAAA State Championship game alongside his teammates and best friends. After graduation, Alex attended Texas Christian University where he was co-captain of the rugby team. He graduated with a degree in Economics in May of 2015. While attending TCU, Alex met the love of his life and future wife, Madeleine Abbott. He and Madeleine were married in Houston, Texas, on May 4, 2017. Alex enjoyed being outdoors with his friends and family, especially boating on Lake Austin. He loved traveling, photography, cooking--and eating! Alex's family is forever grateful to the incredible team of doctors, nurses, and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and at St. David's South Austin Cancer Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Alex to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Post Office Box 4486, Houston, Texas, 77210-4486. Alex is survived by his wife, Madeleine, his parents David and Tina Putnam, brothers, Kevin and Kyle Putnam, uncle and aunt John and Cathy Moore, aunts Melinda McAnear and Karen Lovelady Moore. Alex will be missed by many cousins and countless friends, all of whom comprised "Team Putty." A celebration of Alex's life will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 12th at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow at Hotel Granduca, 320 South Capital of Texas Highway. The days of playing basketball with Alex will always be remembered! It's hard to believe can't believe how long ago that was. He was always smiling and had a great spirit! I wish I would've kept in more contact with him post-high school, but I will cherish the memories I have. Sleep easy big dog!

To David, Tina and Family - My memories of Alex are as a little dude, attending Bridge Point with my son, Justin, with our little group growing up as Cub Scouts, camping out, building Pinewood Derby cars. It literally feels like it all happened last weekend to me. I cannot imagine the depth of sorrow and emptiness that has struck your lives, and every member of my family wants to extend our deepest sympathies to you. Despite only being close to him during his Bridge Point years, those memories are some of the best and most resonant images for us and he will always be connected to us through them. We will always remember Alex with great affection and our prayers are with your family.

What a tragic loss of one of my favorite young men. I never saw Alex without a smile on his face. I never heard a cross word come out of his mouth. The world is a little bit darker now. But we can take comfort in the fact that heaven is a little big brighter.

My heart and prayers to you all, David, Tina and family and friends.
