Alfonso Rey Obituary

Alfonso "Al" Rey entered eternal rest surrounded by his family on March 14, 2025. Born on August 3, 1952, in Monahans, TX to Celedonio Rey and Rosa Urias. Al grew up in Midland, TX in a large and loving family. He attended St. Anthony's Catholic School in San Antonio before graduating from Midland High School in 1970. Al began a long and fulfilling career with Southwestern Bell, where he formed many friendships that would last a lifetime. He retired after 30 years in 2002.

In 1972, Al married Belinda Garcia and they had two children. They moved to Austin in 1973, where Al embraced the vibrant culture and beauty of the city he came to love.

Al was a passionate football fan and cherished the UT Longhorns. He loved hosting gatherings where friends enjoyed pool, football, BBQ and beer. Al was known for his generous spirit. His constant companions were American Eskimo dogs, a beloved breed throughout his life.

Al admired his parents and maintained close relationships with his family. Al loved his children and, above all, he adored his three granddaughters whom he referred to as his "princesses."

Al is lovingly remembered by his children, Valerie and Eric Rey; granddaughters, Madison, Bryce and Aubrey; brother Danny Rey; sisters Sally Sosa and Melinda Hernandez, and family and friends. Alfonso, Al, Poncho Rey- We love and miss you!

My condolences to Valerie & Eric. Poncho was always nice to me. He would come to my soccer games when I played in Austin. He even took me to my first bonfire. Poncho, you will always be missed. Please give my mom a big hug up there. Love you
