Allan Reagan Obituary

Allan Lawrence Reagan Allan Lawrence Reagan of Georgetown, 79, retired advertising executive, Korean War veteran, fly fisherman, amateur magician and actor, devoted husband and companion, and a friend of many died December 5, 2007, after a long battle with a combination of lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. Born March 7, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, to Allan Franklin and Ann Caroline Eckerstrom Reagan, Allan grew up in both New York City and Albany. His father was sports editor of the Albany Times- Union and director of the New York State Bureau of Publicity and his grandfather, Col. Allan L. Reagan, was adjutant general of the New York State National Guard. Their collective namesake, Allan L. Reagan, born in Ireland, died in the Battle of Utoy Creek in the Civil War. Allan's Boston- born mother was of Swedish and French Canadian ancestry. Allan graduated from St. Ann's Academy in Albany, attended City College of New York and was stationed in Pusan, South Korea, during the Korean War, where he mustered out as a sergeant first class. While on furlough July 25, 1951, he married the former Robin Stahl of Larchmont, whom he had met working at the BBD&O advertising agency in New York. Robin died in 2003. During their 52-year marriage, he and Robin lived in various locations in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Cazenovia, a quaint upstate New York village, was home for 36 years. There Allan was President of Kenwood Advertising, in Oneida, and earlier Vice President of CL&B Advertising in Syracuse, and Robin was editor of the local weekly newspaper. They were faithful members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where Allan served on the vestry. For many years he was President of the Cazenovia Community Chest, and a volunteer for the local ambulance corps. He was a life member of Willow Bank Yacht Club in Cazenovia. Newly single in 2003 and relocated to Texas, Allan became an active member and past officer of the Sun City Solos Club, a collection of bon vivant retirees into which he fit perfectly. Friends appreciated both his keen wit and dry martinis. There he met his cherished companion Donna Graham, with whom he had many great travels and happy times. They were members of Faith Lutheran Church. Allan is survived by his son, Allan, of Leander and Round Rock, daughter Kathleen Houghton of Preston, England, her son William Lawrence Reagan Houghton, beloved daughter-in-law Jan Reagan of Leander, four nephews (the Beals family), several cousins, two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Funeral at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 10th, at Faith Lutheran Church, 4010 Williams Dr. in Georgetown. A service celebrating Allan's life followed by inurnment will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 14th at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cazenovia, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
