Annie Johnston-Schmid Obituary

Annie Johnston-Schmid May 17, 1957 - August 16, 2009 Annie Johnston-Schmid passed away on August 16, 2009 in Paris, France after a long struggle with cancer. Annie fought with grace and dignity and is an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She was 52 years old. Anne Elizabeth Johnston was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and she spent most of her childhood in Corpus Christi, Texas where she later attended Richard King High School. Annie was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and also of the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. She obtained a master's degree in ESL in Mayaguez and taught there until moving to Paris, France. While Annie was living in Puerto Rico she met and later married Jochen Schmid of Rielasingen, Germany. Annie and Jochen shared a wonderful life in Paris, France where they both worked. Annie will be missed immeasurably by a multitude of loving family and friends throughout Texas, Europe, Puerto Rico, New Zealand and Australia. She was an exceptional individual who was forever loving, fair, and available to any of her family and friends. Annie was continually lighthearted and dealt positively with life's challenges-- particularly her fight with colon cancer. Annie is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Jochen Schmid; her parents, William and Caroline Johnston; siblings, Joe, Mary, Margaret, and Paul; nieces and nephews, Mariana, Monica, Michael, Feriel, Ghizlane, Ines, Sarita Rain, Alec, Andrew and Madison; sisters-in-law, Charlene and Lupita Johnston; mother-in- law, Dorothee Schmid; and Jochen's siblings, Gunther, Volker, and Yvonne. We will never forget Annie's beauty that shone inside and out, but most of all we will always remember her loving heart! Annie's Texas memorial will be held Saturday, August 29, 6:30 p.m. at the UT Catholic Student Center, 2010 University Ave., in Austin.
