Aspen Dunaway Obituary

Aspen James Dunaway made his last "Irish Goodbye" on October 25, 2023. Aspen, the first child of Frank and Rose Dunaway, was born at home on December 2nd, 1975. He was homeschooled for much of his early education before entering public school in the 9th grade. Aspen later played varsity basketball and was part of the first graduating class of McNeil High School in 1994. He graduated from Southwestern University with a degree in International Studies, a discipline which spurred him to learn German and Dutch while sending him abroad to the historic cities of Osnabrück in northwest Germany and Groningen in the northern Netherlands. Aspen was a brother in Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from Baylor University School of Law with a Juris Doctor and was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. After gaining experience with a large law firm in Austin, he opened his own personal injury firm, Dunaway Law Firm. He was an active member of both the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association. Politics was another area where Aspen sought to improve the lives of others. He was a Democratic Precinct Chairman and ran for his home seat in District 49 in the Texas House of Representatives in 2016. He also donated his time and money to successful Democratic campaigns across central Texas. Aspen is greatly missed by his son, Ayden Dunaway, and Ayden's mother, Apolline Doss, his mother Rose Dunaway, his father Frank Dunaway, his sister Katie Dunaway, his brother Josiah Dunaway and partner Sierra Perez, his brother Nate Dunaway, as well as his many aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held on his 48th birthday, December 2nd, 2023, at Red River Church at 4425 Red River St., Austin, TX. 78751 at 2pm. The celebration can be viewed at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85473317914?pwd=cThtdFVEUS9oSzN4VVN5ZGdtSE91Zz09. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity or to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM).

Hey Buddy, I wish I would have stopped by your office a few days earlier than I did so we could have chatted. You were really good at making everybody feel special. Christine and I have fond memories of you. I believe we will rekindle those memories whenever we have your favorite, Châteauneuf-du-Pape. You are missed.

Praying for you for all during this difficult time. God will wrap his loving arms around each of you as you go through each day. He needed an angel and he chose Aspen. The challenges we all face daily can only be handled with Christ by our sides. He cleanses, strengthens and simply loves us back to health. Heaven needed an angel and how blessed you are that He chose one of the best.

Aspen,
Thank you for all the advice you've given me over the past couple years. I only knew you for a short time, but enjoyed every moment with you. Since I first met you at 1411 you made yourself available for questions and gave great advice. You were the person I felt most comfortable reaching out to at any point during the day. You always told me what I needed to hear. For me, you were a bright light shining over the murky waters of the legal profession. I felt safer knowing that I could always reach out to you. Thank you Aspen, you will be greatly missed.

Thank you for everything.
I got to work for you for five years, and you taught me so much along the way. I remember those days when you showed your appreciation unexpectedly with my favorite Starbucks drink that you knew by memory and when you allowed me to bring my kids to the office because I didn't have a babysitter, even during the pandemic when school was virtual, you led me to set a classroom next to my workstation so my kids could be cared for, the unforgettable coffee mugs and Christmas cards, and many more memories I will treasure forever.
Your "Irish Goodbye" impacted me deeply. My prayers and thoughts for your family and a special place for you in my heart forever.
You'll be missed.
