Betty CUMMINS Obituary

CUMMINS, Betty Ann
May 11, 1929 - March 21, 2016
Elizebeth Ann (Betty Ann) Bradfield Cummins was born in Austin, Texas on Mother's Day, May 11, 1929 to William Landon and Nell Walling Bradfield.

A lifelong resident of Austin, Betty Ann graduated from Austin High School in 1946 where she was a Red Jacket. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Texas, Austin in 1950. Betty Ann was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was elected to numerous offices and continued her affiliation with the sorority as an active alumna. As a condition of marrying "that Cummins boy", Betty Ann's father insisted that she complete her education first.

Betty Ann married the love of her life, Donald Hugh Cummins at First United Methodist Church on November 18, 1950.

Betty Ann had a wonderful sense of humor and left many people happy just for having known her. Her many interests included: Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder; Stephen's Ministry; Helping Hand Home for Children; Caritas; traveling (especially Switzerland); fishing at Rockport and Cypress Creek; family gatherings -her favorite being Thanksgiving and Christmas; and Longhorn football. Don proposed during the OU-Texas football game in 1949 and they set their wedding date around an "away" game.

Having been raised by parents and grandparents involved in the Real Estate development business in Austin since 1919, Betty Ann naturally loved all things Austin and passed this heritage along to her family.

Betty Ann is survived by her husband, Don and her two sons, William Bradfield (Brad) Cummins and Thomas Walling and his wife, Linda Cummins, all of Austin. Her survivors also include four grandchildren - Caroline Cummins; Katie Cummins Clark and her husband, Tim; Landon Cummins; Ryan Cummins and many beloved nieces and nephews. Betty Ann is pre¬ deceased by her parents and brother, Tom W. Bradfield.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers and friends for their friendship, love, and support. Betty Ann's faith, family and friends sustained her throughout her life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hope Presbyterian Church, the Helping Hand Home for Children, or to a charity that is dear to you, for what is dear to you, Betty Ann loved also.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas.

Being a native Austinite but living around the country off and on, I just found out about Betty's passing in March, and her brother Tom's passing in 2001. In the mid 70's I had the pleasure of working for Betty's husband, Don Cummins, and her brother, Tom Bradfield in Austin, Bradfield-Cummins, Inc. i didn't know Betty well, but what a lovely woman she was. Whenever she came in the office she was always a delight and such a pleasure to be around, always smiling and friendly, she was a beautiful person. My sister and I were at Oakwood Cemetery and I just knew it was Tom Bradfield's grave I saw. I was very sorry to hear about his passing. I truly enjoyed working for him. He was a great boss and a good man. My sincere condolences to the family. My prayers are with you.

The absolute cutest smile in Austin! I always treasured "catching up" with her at my children events. She was always there as a fun loving grandmama to Caroline and Katy!

Betty Ann was one of those "special" people that made life more enjoyable for others whose life she touched. I don't ever recall seeing her except with a happy smile and a warm greeting. She, and her late brother, Tom, were two that were icons of Austin. A beautiful light has been extinguished. Harry Hilgers

My prayers and love are with you all. I called Betty Ann Baby Betty. She was a dear friend to our family and always had a positive outlook. Many times we shared a waiting room for mom or dad having surgery. She will be missed but smiling at all of us. Love and hugs. Genie Lee Giles
