Carolyn Angela Labit Bailey was born March 31, 1943 to William T and Martha Florence Ward Labit. She died November 6, 2024, from Dementia. She was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe Bailey; son, Ben Bailey and wife, Sherri of Austin; daughter, Laura Bailey Crowell and husband, Nathan of Austin; son, Matt Bailey and wife, Caren of Houston; eight grandchildren; and numerous cousins and friends.
Grandchildren include Mollie Bailey, Bailey Crowell, Matthew Bailey, Addy Crowell, Win Crowell, Micah Bailey, Carson Bailey, and Parker Bailey.
Her perpetual smile and friendliness and radiant personality charmed many during her life.
Carolyn grew up in Austin, Texas, where she was active in many social and civic activities. She graduated in 1961 from Austin High School where, during her senior year, she was honored as Class Friendliest, Head Cheerleader, and Queen of Austin High.
Carolyn graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor College in 1965, with a double major in Chemistry and Spanish, receiving the Loyalty Cup her senior year, as the Outstanding Senior student on campus.
In 1965, she married Joe Bailey, and soon thereafter they moved to Houston to begin their professional careers, Carolyn as a full time Mom and homemaker and Joe as a commercial banker.
In Houston, Carolyn was the ultimate fulltime Mom, raising their three children, while also participating in the Lakeside Country Club Women's Association and the Houston Junior Forum, and several bridge and birthday clubs.
At age 39, Carolyn took up running and walking and completed the Houston Tenneco Marathon in 1983 in four hours. She continued as an avid runner and later walker for the rest of her active life.
Carolyn and Joe moved to their ranch in Fayette County in 2001, where they currently resided.
In Fayette County, Carolyn was active in the St Mark's Medical Center Auxiliary, The Second Chance Emporium, and AMEN Food Bank, as a Director of the St James Episcopal Church Pre-School, the St James Episcopal Altar Guild and the Episcopal Church Women.
Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children and grandchildren at Bailey Acres and attending various grandchildren's sporting, dancing, and other events.
A Memorial Service will be held at St James Episcopal Church in La Grange on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at Frisch Auf Valley Country Club in LaGrange.
