Cocoa Beach, Florida - Chriss Sylvester, Jr., 87, formerly of Buda, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021 in Cocoa Beach, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie. He was also predeceased by his sister Letha Mae and brothers Pete and Bobie Joe. He is survived by their daughters Kathy Hodges of Georgetown, Texas and Karen Crooks and her husband Ken of Cocoa Beach, Florida; and grandchildren Garrett and Melissa Crooks of Fort Collins, Colorado and Jacob and Jillian Ballesteros of Georgetown, Texas; and beloved great grandchildren Jordan, Liam and Josie. Chriss also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews as well as other friends and family that he loved dearly. Chriss grew up on Lake Travis in Central Texas, served in the US Navy on the USS Wasp, and worked as a carpenter in Austin, Texas. Chriss was a Christian for most of his adult life, worshiping with congregations of the church of Christ in Austin and Buda, Texas and in Merritt Island, Florida. Chriss loved God, his country, his family, fishing and hunting, and John Wayne. Entombment will be in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on February 23, 2021 at 10am. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
