Dan was my first significant relationship when I moved to Austin in 1980. I was hired as a school nurse for AISD and from the moment we met, we were off and running. He took me to all the Austin Symphony performances, and the parties for Guest conductors. We tubed down Barton Creek, hiked on every trail, rode the rapids through Campbell's Hole. I had never had such fun as I did with Dan. Years later, he was the photographer at my wedding. Then years later after I had moved to Dallas, and moved back to Austin, I ran into him at the hospital, where we spent hours laughing and reminiscing about all of those wonderful times. Until we meet again where their are no tears, my dear friend, you will remain in my heart.

We spent many years working at various schools with Dan. What a big smile he had to match his big heart! He had a special place in our hearts. We are praying that God's gracious love will soothe those who mourn Dan's passing. Gene and Barbara Horton

I remember Dan all the way back to Lockport Senior High School and then we hooked up again at UW-Stevens Point (at Mr. Greene's urging!) Danny was a terrific player and always good spirited.
I was shocked to hear of his passing. My sympathy and wishes for God's blessing to his family.

When I missed summer band practice in 1983 I felt pathetic and wanted to quit when Ms. Bierschenk wouldn't let me and instead had me take lessons from Mr. Laufer.
My mom would drive me once a week for a half hour lesson and it was and always will be one of our favorite memories. Dan Laufer inspired and motivated me to focus and enjoy playing and Ms. B was very proud of me when I made 1st chair District. My best friend Ed also took lessons from Dan and the next 2 years we were the top trumpet players and most improved players in the band. I am deeply indebted to this man for some of my most positive childhood memories and am sad that he is gone.

Dear Grandma Pat,
My heart is filled with sadness at your loss of Dan. I can not imagine the pain you feel now but I wanted to let you know that our loving thoughts are with you. No words can express how much a mother loves a son. He will always be a part of your life, we're sure he will live in your heart forever.

Life is a book in volumes three-
The past, the present, and the yet-to-be.
The past is written and laid away,
The present we're writing every day,
And the last and best of volumes three
Is locked from sight - God keeps the key.

Love,
Alexis & Dawn
xoxo

Pat,
I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I always regarded Dan as one of the very best trupet players that I had the privilege of conducting at both the High School and University level. He was also one of the nicest young men that I worked with as a teacher.
With much sympathy,
Don

Dan was an awesome trumpet player and teacher. Every high school student that I knew, who was taught by Dan, excelled to Honor Band including my son Jimmy. The music world of Austin has lost a treasure.

My prayers and condolences go out to the family of this talented man.
