David BENAVIDES Obituary

BENAVIDES, Marine Lance Corporal David Michael

On March 21, 2014, the Lord called our beloved David Michael Benavides into his arms at the age of 21. David was born on July 4, 1992 in Austin, Texas, and attended Austin High and Gonzalo Garza High Schools, graduating in 2010.

David was truly one of the most selfless people you'll ever meet. He loved his family dearly, and always put the needs of others before his own. This quality is what led him to join the United States Marine Corps in 2011. David was built to be a Marine. His sense of honor, duty, discipline and selflessness was evident very early in his life. While in the Marines he achieved the rank of LCpl. David passed away while on active duty, and although his time on this earth was short, he left behind a great legacy and example for others to follow. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, heart of gold, distinct laugh and unforgettable smile. David loved spending time with his family, and had a very special bond and fondness for his little brother Danny, who looked up to him like the hero he was. David loved life and was passionate about working out, enjoyed music and was an avid vinyl collector. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers, Tony Nunez and Sam Hernandez.

David is survived by his beloved Mother, Samantha Sustaita and loving Step-Father Daniel Sustaita Sr.; Father Donald Benavides and Step-Mother Tami Benavides; Great-Grandmother Margaret Nunez; Great-Grandparents Jesse and Olivia Benavides; Grandmother Delia Hernandez; Step-Grandmother Elizabeth Sustaita; Step-Grandmother Veronica Nunez; Grandparents Daniel and Petra Benavides Sr.; Siblings Sara Benavides,Daniel Sustaita Jr., Andrew Sustaita, Matthew Sustaita (Kristina), Andrea Sustaita, Donielle Benavides, Donisa Benavides, Joseph Cisneros, Illyana Cisneros; Loving God-Parents George and Patsy Salinas; 2 Nephews; 2 Nieces; numerous family members and friends, including family dog Jack Sustaita.

The family would like to thank the staff of Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, CA., especially RN Rod Salaysay, for the tremendous care they provided David during his time of need.

Young Devil, I woke up today with you on my mind. Truly a hard life knowing a warrior left this fight to be with the Lord in Heaven. I have saw smiles at your passing from mom and dad and I did my best to keep your younger brother in great spirit. It's a hard life but we all miss you and thinking about you today drove e to the idea to stop and say hello. Life is never what we think it should be and we all hold our heads a little lower with you gone. Just know your presence has never left nor will it; Semper Fi Marine, Brother, and Warrier your fight was short because God had another war for you to fight.
