David Gillmore Obituary

David Gillmore was taken to be with his Heavenly Father on March 7, 2025. He was born on March 19, 1933 to Harvey Maurice Gillmore and Marie Brown Gillmore in Ft. Worth Texas.

He graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, TX with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education; received a Master of Science of Education in Mathematics from Wichita State University, Wichita, KS and a PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Texas in Austin.

He entered the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant in 1955. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he served as a Titan II Missile Combat Crew Commander. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Captain.

On August 9, 1969, he married Carolyn Reaves and they enjoyed 43 years as best friends, raising their family and participating in church activities and hobbies. David particularly enjoyed woodworking, duck carving, photography, and travel.

He was a teacher in Ft. Worth before becoming Assistant Director of Research for the Ft. Worth Public Schools. Upon completion of his doctorate, he was employed by the Region 13 Education Service Center as Director of Planning, Evaluation and Administrative Services for 10 years. He then established the Junior and Senior High School at Hyde Park Baptist Church and was the Principal and Superintendent for two years. He served with Northside ISD in San Antonio and Hays CISD in the area of computer technology and retired from the Texas Education Agency in 1990.

David accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 8 and for the remainder of his life, his faith and involvement in church activities were especially important to him. After his retirement he spent much of his time as a staff member and volunteer at Hyde Park Baptist Church and was active in the Community Bible Study. David spent the last years of his life volunteering at Austin Baptist Church on various committees and service projects. He lived his faith and dedicated himself in service to the Lord.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Gillmore and his son, Greg Gillmore.

He is survived by daughter, Gayle Gillmore of Tampa, Florida, son Mark Gillmore and his wife, Carianne of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren Megan York and her husband Alex, Ethan Gillmore and Connor Gillmore; and great grandchildren Alastair York and Lilith York.

A memorial service will be held at Austin Baptist Church on Friday, March 28th at 2:00pm. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
