David SANDS Obituary

SANDS, David Allen
Lt. Col. David Sands joined his beloved wife in heaven Saturday, June 25, 2016 peacefully but on his own terms, after a brief illness. He is survived by his three children; David Sands (wife Kim) of Austin, Kim Blauser (husband Bill) of Fair Oaks Ranch and Lisa Reifsnider (husband Jason) of Austin, and six grandchildren; DJ and Katherine Sands, Evan and Zack Blauser, Galen and David Reifsnider. There is also a beloved cousin Debby Dennis (husband Bruce) of Monrovia, California.

David was born in Wooster, Ohio in 1931 but eventually moved with his family to Arcadia, California. He grew up an only child but raised by three sisters and an uncle in a unique family situation when his mother died and his father was called off to WWII. He would grow up with a fascination with trains and a love of flying.

This love of flight would lead to a career in the USAF as a fighter pilot, serving his country for over 2 decades of his life. During this time he would find the love of his life Joan. They would marry, travel the world and have three children.

Retirement from the Air Force lead to two successful business ventures in the Austin area: Pierson House of Flowers on Anderson Lane followed by Longhorn copies on Guadalupe.

A final retirement allowed them to move to Wimberley, Texas and travel the country in an RV.

Not long after Joan's death, Dave would move back to Austin to be near two of his children.

In accordance with his wishes, Dave will be cremated and placed alongside his wife of over 50 years in Wimberley, Texas. Their simple wedding bands will be placed between them forever.

Dave's life will be celebrated on July 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Chapel in the Hills, 14601 Ranch Rd 12, Wimberley, TX 78676. Thomason Funeral Home, Wimberley, TX. (512) 847-2226.

I'm so sad to have heard today of Dave's passing. I only knew he and Joanie as neighbors for a relatively short time. But, they both left such great impressions on my wife and me. Dave had an infectious personality and I enjoyed hearing his stories and getting to know him. I wish we'd had more time for fire-side talks.

No doubt your morning cup will be forever missed at the Cafe'. Godspeed!

My condolences to David, Kim and Lisa. You know only too well that your folks were wonderful people and Earth could use more like them.

Been a long time since I seen the whole Sands clan. I know that you are all laughing at your dad's jokes and remembering all the fun times. I hope that this helps heal your hearts and dry your tears.
