David Thompson Obituary

David Ray Thompson, Jr. David went home to Jesus, June 4, 2010, after a year battle with cancer. He spent the last three weeks at Christopher House where he was surrounded by the love of his family and friends. David was born June 9, 1977, in Austin and graduated from West- lake High School in 1996. He attended Austin Community College where he studied construction and graduated with a small engine mechanic certification. He worked as a mechanic at Mustang Equipment in Marble Falls until he became ill. He was a member of Lake Hills Church. He loved God and was proud of his faith. He was a generous loving friend and family member. David loved Costa Rica, he lived, visited and married there and his family will be returning his ashes to the beaches he so loved. David is survived by his wife, Ashleigh Thompson; his parents, David R. and Jeanne Ann Thompson of Spicewood, Tex., his brother, Samuel B. Thompson, wife, Carly Bosworth Thompson and niece, Charlotte Grace Thompson of Austin, Texas; Grandmother, Sally Burke Winchester of Charleston, MO; Ashleigh's parents, Terry and Becky Smith; sisters-in-law, Amanda and Alyssa Smith; and brother-in-law, Nathan Smith of Austin, Tex.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. We would like to thank our family and friends who have walked this journey with us, supporting us with love, prayers, cards, texts and emails they have held us up and gotten us through these long days. David wanted to share this bible verse: ... "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:28-31. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice Austin Christopher House, 2820 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., Austin, TX 78702. A very special thanks to all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Christopher House for your loving and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 1:00, at Lakehills Church downtown campus located at Central Christian Church, 1110 Guadalupe St., Austin, TX 78701; Ron Campbell presiding.

I am so sorry to have just heard about the passing of our beloved David. Please know you are in my prayers as you are dealing with your loss. Although it has been years since I have last seen him, I will forever remember him as a nice, outgoing, fun-loving person who truely cared for each person he met. I am Chelsea's mom (most of you know who she is) and through Chelsea I met David. I have seen him on and off over the years and I found him to be a wonderful friend to Chelsea and Brandon. He was also a friend to me and many, many others. As a mother, I am happy to say I saw David so very brave during the last year, sharing himself with others and his wife Ashleigh was a delight to meet. My last meeting with David and Ashleigh was at the birth of my newest granddaughter and they were so happy for all of us. David brought out a lot of love and charity in many hearts and souls and for that I will always be greatful. His time here was short; but very important not just to you, his immediate family, but to so many others. He made the world a better place. As a mother myself, I am so very, very sorry for your loss, but also as a mother, I am happy that David has passed to a wonderful, kind and loving father. It makes me sad that such a good man has left this world and he will be missed. I realize I cannot comprehend the loss that the family will have to endure but I do hope the realization that David was loved and is now at peace does give some relief to your souls. God Bless you all. Maggie
