Deborah Granell Obituary

Deborah (Debby) Lee Granell, aged 65, passed away on September 1, 2023, surrounded by her family in Austin, Texas, following a courageous battle against cancer.

Debby was born on March 5, 1958, in Utica, New York to John and Agnes (Cichon) Dunn and was the third youngest of 11 children. After graduating from New Hartford High School, Debby worked to put herself through MVCC in Utica, New York, becoming a licensed RN. She then signed up to be a traveling nurse, where her assignments took her to many exciting places that she loved to share about; her favorite of which being Hawaii. One of these exciting places was Austin, Texas, where she met and married Douglas Granell and spent 32 blessed years together. Debby devoted her life to taking care of others, working as a nurse at Brackenridge Hospital for 26 years, where she was well respected by her colleagues. She instilled a strong foundation of faith for her family and was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Debby loved being outdoors and had a passion for adventure and travel, often preferring to go with little plans and especially with her family. She enjoyed skiing, snorkeling, visiting beaches, spoiling her fur babies, and tending her flourishing garden. She was a fabulous chef, baking pies and cakes for any occasion, but her favorite part about cooking was treating her family to home-cooked, healthy meals almost every night.

Debby will always be remembered for her straight-shooting, no-nonsense personality, her famous chocolate chip cookies, and her devotion to taking care of her family. We could not have asked for a better wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She will be missed every day and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Celebrating her life and cherishing her memory is her beloved husband, Douglas Granell; son, Ryan Granell; daughter, Missy (Andrew) Cronk; granddaughter, Poppy Cronk; sisters, Mary Dunn and Kathleen (Stephen) Petrowski; brothers, James (Lori) Dunn and Christopher Dunn; sister-in-law, Valerie Dunn; brother-in-law, Michael Getz; and many nieces and nephews.

Debby will be welcomed in heaven by her parents, brothers, Kevin & John Dunn; sisters, Charlene Barker, Margaret Getz, Susan Dunn, and Carol Baker.

A service celebrating Debby's life will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00am.
