Doris Westmoreland Obituary

Doris Jean Czimsky Westmoreland Doris Jean Czimsky Westmoreland, 76, of Austin, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 10, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 11, 1933 to Emil and Laura Czimsky in Austin, Texas. At a time when most women were not often given management positions, she was the first at Texas State Teachers Association to break that glass ceiling. Jean became the highest ranked female in the system. When computers move from room-sized data punch to desktop, she was one of the first to learn and use this new technology. She took early retirement in 1985. Mom was a very loving and giving person, putting others first. She loved shopping with her granddaughters, traveling with friends, and visiting with family. Her homemade lasagna and oatmeal cookies were legendary. She had a special bond with her cats, Yum-Yum and Ko-Ko. They gave her great comfort and happiness. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, James Westmoreland; and one granddaughter, Jacquelin Westmoreland. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Corbitt and husband, Earl and Carol Lantzsch and husband, Ed; sons, Greg Westmoreland and James Todd Westmoreland; daughter, Kelli Westmoreland; three granddaughters; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Home Health, Shelby, Shanna, and Karla and also to Odyssey Hospice, Lori, Nancy, and especially Connie for her care and compassion shown to Jean and our family during this difficult time. A special thanks to Jean's son-in-law, Lee Buslett for his dedicated and unselfish time given to help care for her, the household, and her 4-year old grandson so that her wish to stay home during this time was made possible. Thanks to all of our friends and family for their love, care, and moral support. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N. IH-35 in Pflugerville.

December 12, 2009

Dearest Wes, Cindy and Hillary, A life so good; a Mother so loved; a Grandma so cherished; times so remembered mean you were all so blessed and all so fortunate to have had Mom/Jean/Grandmother in your lives. Goodness, she will be missed, but she was wise enough to leave each of you with a feeling of being especially loved by her in a special way set apart and different from others. Mothers can make that kind of magic. I am thrilled you got it and have it now and forever.
There will be prayers from Carlos and me that the hurt opens to acceptance and the loneliness opens your hearts to others that need what only you can give and be back to them as your Mother would want. We offer to help in any way now and later. We love you, Carlos, Suzanne and our Children
