Douglas Reid Obituary

Douglas Nye Reid. December 25, 1950 July 23, 2024.

Doug was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2021 and courageously battled the disease for three years. Doug spent his final months at Belmont Village in the Memory Care unit under the watchful support of his caregivers. We are grateful for his numerous caregivers, especially Rene Rodriguez and Stella Armstrong.

The son of Donald F. and Betty Reid, Doug was born December 25, 1950 in St Louis, MO. and his school years were in the Kirkwood suburbs. Doug served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. Doug moved to California for the next thirty years, following many various pursuits from actor to agent and finally found his passion being a salesman in Silicon Valley during the boom of computers and internet in the 90's, before moving to Austin to continue his work. Doug retired to the Lakeway area and met Beverly on the golf course thru mutual friends. Doug enjoyed boating on Lake Travis, golfing at the Hills Country Club, playing social bridge and traveling the world with family and friends.

Doug is survived by wife, Beverly McMillen Reid, and sons, Brandon (wife, Ashley) and Harrison (wife, Kelly) and his grandchildren, Carter Sophia and Patrick John. Doug also is survived by sister Connie Grimes, brother Donald Reid, sister in-law, Jane Reid, sister-in-law, Lyn Reid and former wife Bette Reid. As a blended family, Doug's extended family included Pam McMillen and Bob Swedo, Laurie McMillen and Tim Hutchings, and John and Alisha McMillen. Extended family grandchildren who called Doug "Didi" are Hailey and Nick Rittersbach, Marissa, Cameron, Graham Hastreiter, Aidan Hutchings, Addison McMillen and Darian McMillen.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, brother Chris Reid, and brother Britton Reid.

Doug was a loving member of the Lakeway Church and passionately enjoyed the Sunday morning sermons. Doug enjoyed spending quality time with his extended family and being the DJ for all the music jam sessions.

A celebration of life will be held on October 5, 2024 2 p.m. at the Lakeway Church. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Lakeway Church or to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).

My dear friend from our twenties. Many hilarious fun times. Star struck kids! Great memories from really a short period of time in our lives. My mom passed to the same disease. She and my family had a warm spot in their hearts for you. I know you're dancing and singing in heaven. " I'm going to Kansas City !" Love to all your family.

Doug was one of the sweetest, nicest people ever! He was so loving and appreciative of Beverly. He was one of our biggest supporters and helpers for the yearly Rally Fore the Cure. He will be missed!

It was with a heavy heart I read Doug's obituary this morning. Doug was my partner for Sadie Hawkins tournaments at the Hills C. C. Because of his wonderful game, we always placed. I just tagged along.
Doug was a lovely man and a joy with whom to play golf. My deepest sympathy, Beverly, but with such a terrible disease for you both to fight, I know he's in a better place.
