hello to all friends & family of Andy Carr, and my belated condolences! i did not know Andy, but he studied with my father (Wolf Hilbertz) at UT in the early 70's, as noted here.
the estate of Wolf Hilbertz has a fantastic drawing (that illustrates concepts Wolf taught and eveloped) which may have been done by Andy - we are trying to correctly attribute this drawing for purposes of the Estate, and possible exhibition. if you are, or know anyone who might be, familiar with Andy's early (student) work, i'd very much appreciate to hear from you! please do send a note to me at [email protected].
and thank you very much in advance-

We remember each other for small things, moments gone by. The other day I passed by a Chili's Restaurant, and I remembered that Andy and I would go for burgers at the original place out on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. It was an odd strangely assembled joint with a long queuing alley that resembled a high school cafeteria. A place that you would never think capable of spawning a major chain restaurant. It was the Terlingua burgers that drew us there.

Please except the respect of Ralph Pearson and Julio Sanchez who never knew Mr. Carr.
But finds humbling value in the wittiness of the impact of his passing through our friendship with Mr. Dana Copp who holds our respect and admiration in his and Andy's profession.
We pray for blessings and willful healing to all of Andy's family and friends.

I lived in TCV between 1972 to 1979 and befriended Andy during that time.
I saw a lot of people come and go but Andy? Well, he was fixed personality that you couldn't forget.
We used to occasionally shoot pool on Greenville Ave. on Saturday nights and play poker poker till 2 or 3 in the mornings with Arnold Bernstein, Neil Beldon on occasions, Paul, and a few others.
I remember a time when Andy and I started a rent strike at TCV due to rent increases and paying for utilities that were literally going through the roof . Andy put together a flyer with a sketch of a turtle sitting on the "A" frame covered with melting snow due to the heat loss. Wow, what a talented artist! The flyer got a lot of attention and the strike was underway. It drove Gari, the TCV manager, nuts! Here she was, a friend to us all and at the same time asking us to stop the strike and concentrate on our more productive "social loitering". We finally agreed, and after a couple of months, returned our focus on social affairs.
I visited Andy in Austin in 2006 and again in 2007. He hadn't changed a bit and wasn't planning to. That was Andy!
Fair winds my friend and may you continue the social loitering with those TCV already with you.
We'll all be joining you at some point and have a beer with you and shoot some birdies.

He was my Uncle Andy and I loved having a good time getting to know him and Austin when I was an Art student there in the 80's. I love you, Andy, rest in peace, with the Lord JC God you have always known Who Loves You.

I'll tip my hat to my old roommate E. Andrew Carr and wish him a fond farewell. Andy invited me to share an apartment with him at Turtle Creek Village in Dallas, one of the greatest places to live if you happened to be in Texas in the mid-70s. Howard Mayer was the architect for these A-frame buildings that were manufactured in Sweden and assembled just across the tracks from the Kalita Humpreys Theater Center. It was a wonderful place to live because it was an urban community that worked, and Andy was one of the legendary characters that inhabited the place. We painted our door like it was a sailboat. Others followed our initiative. I last saw Andy in the mid 90s at a place called "Granite" that overlooked Shoal Creek in Austin. I have thought about him a lot over the years and feel good to have had him as my friend.
