(01/04/2003) Ermin Alta Daugherty Napier, age 89, passed away on New Year's Eve, December 31st. She was the daughter of two of Oklahoma's ``Old Settlers''. Ermin was born on a farm near Clinton, Oklahoma, on December 29, 1913. She graduated Valedictorian, from Cheyenne High School in 1931. She later attended Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City, and then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where she worked as a legal secretary until marrying Saline Napier in 1939. They lived in various locations during World War II, including Marietta, Georgia. After the war they moved back to Oklahoma where they lived until 1947 when they moved to Alice, Texas. They resided there for four years, and then moved to Corpus Christi, where they lived for 10 years. They finally settled in Austin in 1963 where they resided until their deaths. She was the best ``Mom'' for which a person could ask, very selfless, loving and giving, the world's ultimate homemaker and stay-at-home mom. We, her children, greatly benefited from her many sacrifices. Ermin was a long-time member of the Hyde Park Baptist Church, and was a devoted student of the Bible. She resided in Eubank Acres until 1999 when she moved to The Clairmont. After suffering a stroke in 2001, she moved to Gracy Woods Nursing Home. After a brief illness in early December, she moved to Christopher House where she lived until her death. Ermin was preceded in death by her husband, Saline (Sam) Napier; her parents, John Lee and Ada Snider Daugherty; and her brothers, Richard Lee and John R. Daugherty of California. She is survived by her sisters, Lillian Combs of Grass Valley, California, and Helen Ward of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Robert (Bob) E. Daugherty of Stillwater, Oklahoma; daughter, Bette Pritchett of Round Rock, Texas; son, Warren Napier and wife, Patsy of Austin; grandsons, James Pritchett and wife, Christy of Garland, Texas, John Kirby of Sanger, Texas, Scott Napier of Jacksonville, Florida, Philip Napier of Austin, and Ross Flowers of Austin; and granddaughters, Lesley Napier of St. Augustine, Florida, and Natalie Flowers of Taylor, Texas; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Pflugerville on Saturday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Mrs. Napier will lie in state Saturday afternoon until 7:00 p.m. The service is slated for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2003. Those wishing to make donations, in lieu of flowers, may choose from Christopher House, Hospice Austin, or the Hyde Park Baptist Church Building Fund for their tribute.
