Fred Stroman
10/13/2025
Fred Stroman, 85, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by family holding his hand.
Born in San Angelo, Texas, in 1939, Fred proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine before studying engineering at the University of Texas. He went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career in information technology with the U.S. Geological Survey.
Fred was a lifelong dog lover, known especially for his years spent breeding and training German Shepherds alongside his wife, Alice. Dogs adored him-and the feeling was mutual.
A natural handyman, Fred always had a project going at home. Whether fixing something or building from scratch, he had a rare gift for working with his hands and took joy in sharing that talent with others. He loved watching sports of all kinds, especially his Longhorns and Cowboys.
Fred will be remembered for his quiet kindness, his generous heart, and his steady presence. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a true friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Herman Stroman, and his sister, Audrey. [email protected]
Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice; daughter Gina Weatherby Grigsby and her husband Russell; sister Shirley Roberson; grandsons Drew Weatherby and Scott Weatherby (Kyrsti); brother-in-law Gary Miller (Karen); nephew and neices Mark Roberson, Jill Phillips, and Donna Ingraham; and his cherished dog, Gauner.
Fred also leaves behind many dear neighbors and friends, including Robert, Genevieve, Carrot, Bess, Paul, and others whose companionship he truly treasured.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to nurses Sarah, Camille, and Shary, and to Dr. Shah at St. David's North ICU, for their compassionate care and support du
