Frederick AUSTIN Obituary

AUSTIN, Fredrick V.

Pastor Frederick V. Austin - Retired, of Leander, TX passed away at the age of 81 on Thursday, September 18th, 2014. Frederick V. Austin was born in Easton, PA on February 1st, 1933 and spent his youth there, graduating from Easton High School in 1951.



Fred went to Philadelphia College of Bible where he met Bette; they were married July 23rd, 1955. He graduated from Wheaton College and attended Grad School there. In 1961, they moved to Michigan City, IN where Fred pastored his first church of 15 years. From 1973 to 2001, he pastored 4 churches in Iowa. After 40 years as a pastor, he retired to Leander, TX where he spent 12 years as a substitute teacher in the Round Rock School System. He went out on top doing what he loved the most, teaching and serving others graciously. He dedicated his life to honoring God; all who knew Fred were touched by his remarkable faith, wisdom, storytelling, wit and kindness. He loved sports, playing basketball and being with his family. He was an active member of Grace Covenant Church in Austin. He made an impact on lives everywhere he would go.

He is survived by his wife, Bette, of 59 years, children (and spouses) Tim Austin of Michigan City, IN, Tom Austin (Sharon) of St. Joseph, MI, Kathi Wiebe (Peter) of Apple Valley, MN, Ken Austin (Lori) of Leander, TX, and grandchildren (and spouses) Tim Austin (Tori) and Jake Austin (Katelin), Jacob Skivers, Abby Austin, and Alec Austin, Stephanie Long, Kassandra Valentine Kevin), Karissa Long, Austin Long, and Kelsie Long, Lindsay Austin, Brooke Austin, Chloe Austin and great-grandchildren Arianna, Emma and Alaina, Kellan and Kylissa, and sister Ella Mae Mushlitz (Easton, PA). Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Velma Austin.



The family is grateful to the teachers and nurse of Chisholm Trail Middle School, and doctors and nurses of Round Rock Hospital who cared for Fred in his last days. Memorial service to be held October 18th at Grace Covenant Church, Austin, Texas at 10:00am. In honor of Fred's life and in support of Bette there will be a memorial fund setup at Grace Covenant Church. Please make checks out to: Grace Covenant Church (not tax-deductible).
