George Huber Obituary

MADISON - George P. Huber, age 88, of Austin, TX, and Madison, WI, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison. He was born on September 22, 1936, in St. Louis, MO, the son of George and Ethel (Schall) Huber. He was united in marriage to Sandra (Sandy) Morris Roth on July 14, 2001, in Madison.

George received his bachelor's in mechanical engineering and master's in industrial engineering from the University of Missouri and PhD in industrial engineering from Purdue University. He became a full professor before the age of 40. George worked as an industrial engineering and business professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and later as a business school professor at the University of Texas at Austin, retiring in 2008. He authored several books in his field, was an Academy of Management Fellow and a founding member of the Organizational Design Community. After retirement, George continued writing and reviewing research papers until 2017.

George enjoyed fishing, canoeing on the Boundary Waters, running 10Ks, playing Bridge, and taking continuing education courses. He was a voracious reader, knowledgeable about everything from sports to the sciences, arts, and history. He had a story for every situation, and possessed a special talent for seeing the bright side of issues and for making people feel good about themselves. George and Sandy loved to travel; visiting six continents, with African safaris, the Australian Outback, Galapagos Islands, and China being among their favorites.

George is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Geoff (Kristin) and their children, Ally, Ryan, and Bennett; daughter, Andrea Neiers and her children, Alexis Haines and Gabrielle (Brandon) Hames; five great-grandchildren; brother, John; stepson, Barry (Kelly) Roth; step daughter-in-law, Lisa Roth; eleven Roth grandchildren and three Roth great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel; wife, Elizabeth; son, Benjamin; stepson, William Roth; and sister, Joyce Martin.

Prof. George P. Huber, was a great Scientific, Professor and Human Being. I had the fortune to take a short 2-day course on "Organizational Decision Making" in the 1987-1989 period in my MSc on AI in Monterrey, Tech, Mexico. Later, I focused my EngD at UNAM in related topic: Decision-Making Support Systems (DMSS). His research on ODM was really top worldwide. I used several of his top research papers in my EngD Thesis and in my graduate courses. Rest his Soul in Peace.
