I was out of the country when I received word that Glenda had passed away. She was such a lovely person. She always had a smile on her face and made everyone feel they were important. I will miss her but I will always have my wonderful memories of your mother, my friend, and "Our State Representative". My heart felt sympathy to you & your family.

My husband died shortly before Glenda lost hers. When I saw her a few weeks afterwards, she comforted me as no one else had . . . or ever did again. She said, "I won't say I know how you feel. I don't. But I do know you feel like someone just tore off you right arm!" She said it with such compassion, and then gave me the biggest hug!! She had such a way of getting right to the heart of a matter, and then providing as much of a solution as she could, as quickly as she could. WHAT A REMARKABLE lady!! I can't wait to see her again someday when I "graduate" to Heaven, too! May God give the same measure of comfort to her dear family that she gave to me during my time of sorrow!!

God put this wonderful woman in my life at such a crucial time and what an impact she made! I can truly say if it weren't for her caring compassion, I wouldn't be where I am today. You see in
1979-80 I had Mrs. Dawson as my shorthand teacher. I already knew what a wonderful teacher and person she was but I had no idea at that time just how much she would impact my life and my future. Mrs. Dawson truly went above and beyond being a teacher. She truly cared about each and every student and made sure they knew it. The impact she had on my life affected my future. You see she knew I wanted to go to college and become a teacher myself. From the beginning of my senior year, she told me that she was going to help me find a scholarship. Every scholarship that she knew of, she would tell me about and I would apply. She was so determined and of course I would anxiously apply for each scholarship. There were several that I didn't get, but she never gave up on me...she stayed diligent and fortunately, because of her dedication to helping me, I was awarded a full 4 year scholarship! I was able to get my Elementary Education degree within the 4 years and then I came back to Pearland ISD and became an elementary teacher. I have now been teaching in this district for 20 years and I owe it to Mrs. Dawson. Because of her love and compassion... I am the teacher I am today... She truly made a lasting impact on my life and she will always have a special place in my heart!

Dee and Family,

Glenda, Herb and I, taught 8th grade Girls Sunday School together for two years. As rewarding as that time together was, when we think of Glenda, we remember, Dee, when you were in high school, and would invite friends over to swim and have a good time. Glenda would be undergoing dialysis treatment in her room, she and Tommy would open all the doors so she could enjoy your friends. Our Sons, Jeff and Chuck would come home and talk about what a special time they had in your home. Your friends would come in Glenda''s room and visit with her and feel welcomed, even during her treatment. Our family will miss Glenda, she was a special friend to all of us.

Glenda left a place in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a wonderful friend, an inspiring teacher, and an accomplished stateswoman. She made all who came in contact with her feel important and cared for. Our paths intersected at many points and she was always a joy to be around. Her illness never caused her to be bitter or caused others to be uncomfortable. She handled it as she did everything, with class and good spirits. She will be missed. Heaven is getting sweeter each day because of the lovely people like Glenda who have gone before us. Dee, please know that you are in my prayers. God bless, Rosella Webb

I was one of Glenda's ministers at First Baptist, Pearland many years ago. She was always straight for-ward, but kind and compasionate. I knew I could count on her support and involvement in our many ministries. Her genuineness is reflected in Dee. I have always treasured her friendship. She will be missed in many places.

Dear Dee,

I was so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Mrs. Dawson was my typing teacher in 1974. I was scared of a typwriter, but she put my mind at ease. I was always scared that when we did the exercises, I would be th one not typing in unision and she would help me. She said it was like keeping the beat. It worked.

She was able to meet you where you were and take you to a higher level. I was not suprised when I heard she did was doing motivational speaking and had then been elected to a higher level of representing the Pearland area at the Capitol.

Now she is elevated again to the highest level of serving. With our Lord.

Thank you Dee, for sharing your mother with us all.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers. God Bless you.

There are no words that can truly describe a person such as Mrs. Dawson (as I knew her in the 70’s as a student at PHS) and later as Glenda, as a family friend. She was a mentor, teacher, community servant, faithful Christian, activist, motivational and inspirational speaker and a State Representative to boot. You could never mistake her endearing “Texas Twang” and when she was in a room – you knew it because she shined like no one else could.

I was fortunate enough to be one of her students and I was one of the students that would rush through the test to get through and then find the “directions’ at the bottom that you didn’t have to take the test all, or only have to do the odd numbered questions, or something equally as silly – just to get your attention and teach you a lesson – because that is what she did best. As many have said she taught her students so much more than just typing, shorthand, accounting and business – she did indeed teach life lessons and in turn touched so many students’ lives. I remember how kind and caring she was when I lost my own mother when I was in high school – she reassured me that my mother would always be with me wherever I went – in my heart and in my thoughts – and that is where Glenda will always be too – in my heart and in my thoughts. She will be greatly missed by all as she was truly an unforgettable person. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

My condolences to the Dawson Family!

Mrs. Dawson was my Bookkeeping Teacher at PHS (1970-72), one of my most favorite & influential teachers ever, a great inspiration to me, & encouraged all to do their best work! She showed that no matter what the class was that she was teaching, we all learned ALOT MORE than the subject -- we learned life lessons as well!

I do remember her handing out tests, or writing them, along w/instructions on the chalkboard, & telling us to MAKE SURE WE READ ALL THE WAY THRU THEM, "BEFORE" TAKING THE TEST! As we all soon learned, we needed to pay attention to what she said, as very many times, at the bottom of the instructions was a line saying "ONLY DO PROBLEM #x!", OR "DO NOT TAKE THIS TEST!"!

Although a laugh or red face was had when some rushed to start the test w/o reading thru it (& yes, I was "guilty" a few times), we all learned very soon that Mrs. Dawson was trying to teach us that not just in class, but in life, you need to stop & pay attention to details, because you might just miss out on the "important things" if you don't!

Although I haven't been back in contact w/her since graduation, I have often thought about her, & recalled her inspiration & teachings that lead me to my later occupation in the Accounting field! Since she was on dialysis during my PHS years, I have wondered about her health condition (although she never let that get in her way of teaching, or sharing a smile), & am very happy to hear that she got a kidney transplant, that is truly the greatest gift she could have been given, especially that allowed her to share her love & wisdom with several over many more years! Her smile & dedication to her craft, & to her students, will never be forgotten!

I feel very fortunate to have known the special woman that she was while she was here, & her passing is a great loss, but know that now Heaven has a guardian angel who will still be watching over all from above! God's Blessings to All of Her Family!

Glenda was an incredible lady and an inspiration! Glenda was one of the 3 or 4 teachers that gathered to help start Pizza@Lunch at Pearland High School in 1990. Each time Glenda saw me, she would tell me that Pizza@Lunch was one of the greatest things she had ever been part of and she was so proud that she got to be a part of starting Pizza@Lunch. Not only did she bless me by helping Pizza@Lunch start, she blessed by reminding me how much it meant to her each time she saw me.

My prayers and thoughts are with the family of this incredible lady.

I had Mrs. Dawson as an instructor at PHS. Of course, she was my favorite teacher by all means. She taught all of us more than just the standard classroom lessons - lessons in life, kindness, giving, being thankful and so much more. I've told many people over the years that she is the reason where I am in life today. She always was there as a teacher, a friend, and inspired us all. She will be greatly missed. May God bless the entire Dawson family. She was a wonderful person.

I met Glenda through mutual friends. That warm smile and big welcoming “Hello I am so glad to meet you” , drew me in right a way. You just knew this was someone you wanted to get to know. Her life story is such an inspiration. Glenda your light is still shining in the hearts of all your dear friends.

I make my living learning from the class that Mrs. Dawson taught (accounting) in my senior year of high school (1981) I loved that class because of her! She is one of the few teachers that left such a memorable impression. To touch lives is a wonderful legacy. God bless her family. We will miss her.

I was blessed to have Mrs. Dawson for high school accounting, and I learned much more than just debits and credits from her. She was a fantastic lady and a real inspiration! My husband came to know through her works at the YMCA and was always impressed by her undying spirit. God Bless her family during this time. Pearland has lost a true hero who touched of the lives of many.

Dee and Family,

We are all grieving for the loss of Mrs. Dawson. As a teacher, she encouraged us all to be and do our best. Every class began with a "life lesson" along with that wonderful and contagious spirit! She was a gifted teacher and instrumental in helping so many students. She served us well as our Representative and we cherish her memory as a true friend. I am going to miss those "honks" when she drove by and saw us in the yard. Dee, your mother was truly loved. Kathye-PHS '77

Mrs. Dawson was my favorite high school teacher. I was in her shorthand class in 1972-73. It was due to her encouragement & support that I was able to advance all the way to State in the UIL shorthand contest that year. She was a wonderful teacher and I have always respected & admired her. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. May God be with her family and comfort them in their loss.

Just reading these wonderful remembrances must be priceless to Mrs. Dawson's family. She taught my sister & brothers in the 60's, (Donna, Jack & Larry Moser) & myself & my younger brother Ronny in the early 70's. I just remember her elegance & strength in the midst of dialysis, never missig a beat at school. She was a true Pearland treasure & us old timers will miss her.

September 14, 2006

Mrs. Dawson was a teacher, mentor, friend and inspiration to me. If I had to describe Mrs. Dawson in one word it would be phenomenal. She will never know how many lifes she touched each and every day, just by the way she lived her life with such grace and dignity. Everytime I would see her, she was the same and had the same words "Hey honey, how are you?" followed by a great big hug. It was always all about you, not her. Every time I would see her, I would comment to my own children about what an extraordinary woman she was and the impact she had made on my life. I wrote her a letter when I was in high school and told her what a difference she had made in my life and how not only did she teach the subject, but she taught life. Much to my amazement, 18 years later, she mailed my mother that letter and said she had saved it all those years and would go back and read it from time to time and wanted for my mom to have it. That is a perfect example if you ever had Mrs. Dawson, you were not just a student, but you were a part of her life. We were all very fortunate that God blessed our lifes with her for the 65 years that he did. With the difficult days ahead, please remember "God's way is Perfect" and he had a plan and needed Mrs. Dawson to fulfill that plan. There is no doubt in my mind that she is in heaven telling others what she told me so many times, with that unforgettable Texas accent, "Come on honey, I will help you.......You can do it, you can do anything." Mrs. Dawson's legacy will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time, but be proud that you were fortunate enough to call someone as special as she, either your family or friend. There will never be another Mrs. Dawson.

May God Bless You

To all of the family of Glenda, please accept our deepest sympathy in your loss. But especially to her mother, Ruby Miles, we extend our condolences in your loss. Glenda was a wonderful lady, a great teacher, an energetic Christian speaker, and a receiver of a gift from God, by being a Christian. She taught some of our five children from 1972 - 1985. And they always expressed what a wonderful teacher she was. We lived in Pearland from 1968 to 2003 when at retirement, we chose to move to the beautiful Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. We raised our children in Pearland and will always know that it was the best place in the U.S. to raise a family. We loved Glenda and to her family we want to say the she will be missed by the remainder of her family here on earth, but know that she has joined her beloved husband, Tommy, in heaven and they are having the best reunion ever.

You hear about the teacher who made a difference in your life - that was Mrs. Dawson. She was the epitome of what a teacher should be. She expected a lot from us and she got it. She was firm yet friendly. She looked the part, always dressed like she was the teacher, not one of the students. She was full of advice if you needed it. For many years after I was in her class, when she would run into my mother she would ask "How are my girls?" (my sister was in her class too). She wasn't here long enough but what amazing things she accomplished. I am honored to have known her. PHS Class of '67

Mrs. Dawson was my shorthand and business skills teacher at Pearland back in the early Eighties, and we had continued to stay in contact all these years. She was, by far, the teacher who had the biggest impact on my life. She taught me not only how to write a check and how to write shorthand, she taught me life lessons about integrity, honesty, politeness... And the list goes on. She also was an integral part of my decision to be a court reporter, always there to encourage. I pray God's peace to comfort your family at this sad time. Mona Teasley Whitmarsh, PHS Class of '83.

I had the joy of knowing Glenda personally and professionally. Our families first met through Bobbie and Sonny and the boys when we went to sing Christmas carols while Glenda was on dialysis with Tommy faithfully watching over her. What a trooper she was! When I later joined the faculty at PHS, I remember how kids loved to say what a great teacher she was and tell about her antics in the classroom, especially about her reponses when they asked to go to the restroom. Her determination, resiliency, and enthusiasm made her an inspiration to both students and staff. She blessed many lives and her legacy will live on through those whom she touched with her love, laughter, and joy. Don't you know that Tommy is happy to have her back by his side and Heaven is a brighter place today with her presence. Mike and I extend our deepest sympahty to Mamma Miles, Diane, Dee, Lauren, Dawson and the rest of the family, and ask God to grant you each comfort and peace.
