Guy Stroh Obituary

Dr. Guy Weston Stroh TRENTON - Dr. Guy Weston Stroh, 82, died suddenly on Monday, September 2 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Dr. Stroh grew up in Allentown, PA, where he resided until he graduated from Allentown High School and left for university. He moved to Trenton after his graduate studies 57 years ago. A graduate of Princeton University and Princeton Graduate School, where he received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D in Philosophy, Dr. Stroh joined the faculty of Rider College, now Rider University, in 1956 where he established a Department of Philosophy and served as Professor and Chairman of the department until his retirement. During his years at Rider, he served, early on, as President of the Faculty Senate and was elected to two terms as President of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Association of University Professors. A recognized and awarded teacher and prolific writer, Dr. Stroh authored five well-respected books in American Philosophy and American Ethics and published numerous articles in philosophical and academic journals. An avid tennis player, Dr. Stroh was a long-time member of Arborlea Tennis Club in Yardley, PA. Son of the late Galusha Amos and Hannah Weston Stroh, he is survived by his devoted wife, Marion Kopec Stroh, and five cousins: Ardith Weston Schlauch, Pamela Weston Gitschier and Maureen Weston Steward, all of Breinigsville, PA, Ricardo Haas-Weston of Monterey, Mexico and Dr. Carlos Haas-Weston, MD of Fayetteville, NC. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:30AM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing. Please visit www.murphyfh.com for additional information. The funeral service will begin at 11:15AM, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Nancy H. Schluter, a dear friend and parish associate of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Trenton. I n lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Guy W. Stroh Philosophy Scholarship Fund c/o Philosophy Department at Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
