Harvey Ring Obituary
Harvey Michael Ring passed away October 10, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 51 years Nancy Ring and Lucy, their dog, who never left his side. Loving father of Jessica (Jeffrey) Cole, Joseph, and Alisha (Jamie) Lagarde. Proud Grandfather to six Grandsons. Harvey was a treasured spouse, father, brother, and friend, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Harvey's life began on November, 24, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Ann & Jerry Ring, and his brother, Scott Ring. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he received a BSE and MS in Physics, MBA in Marketing and Finance and a PhD in High Energy Physics. It was there that he met his wife Nancy while skiing at Boyne Mountain. They were married January 20, 1973 and started their family in Ann Arbor, Michigan, never missing a game at the "Big House".
Harvey was celebrated for his leadership, sense of humor, intelligence, business prowess, and larger-than-life personality. He had a deep passion for politics, education, philanthropy, mentoring early-stage companies and the University of Michigan Alumnae Club in Austin. None of these passions compared to his greatest love, his cherished family.
Harvey was surrounded by his family upon his passing. His Grandchildren were one of his greatest joys. Jonathon (17), Harper (14), Kepper (13), Ben (12), Brooks (11) & Grant (8) filled their home with chaos, laughter & noise. Harvey & Nancy loved to take their grandsons on trips & see them experience the world. Their latest adventures as a family were to Alaska, Italy & Greece.
Harvey had an opinion he was happy to share on everything. His career was marked by a diverse and impactful range of experiences. He spent over 45 years in the technology industry holding executive positions within ADP, Cyphernetics, MicroWarehouse, Dell Technologies and more. He was equally passionate and took great pride in mentoring early-stage businesses, serving as an Investor, Board Member and CEO.
Known for his generosity and bringing people together, outings were frequently his treat and usually at Uno's in Davenport Village where all the legends met. Harvey and Nancy loved being with their family and friends, traveling the world together, hosting dinner parties and playing bridge. He brought valuable input to every role he undertook and was deeply loved by the community he served. He was kindly cared for by Christopher House and Hospice during the final months of his life. We will be forever grateful for the sensitive guidance provided by Kerry Burris (Case Manager/Nurse) and the gentle, coaxing care of Healthcare Worker Viviana Vanin.
We are forever grateful for Harvey's long and healthy life, strength of character, high integrity, love of family, friends and for his good genes relating to business, math, science and thick hair.
A celebration of life will take place in Austin, Texas. Please contact his daughter Alisha Ring Lagarde or Jessica Ring Cole for information.
