Family-Placed Obituary

Hayward Gene Durdin Hayward Gene Durdin, 79, of Kingsland, Texas, died May 30, 2005. He was born September 22, 1925 in Humble, Texas to General Lafayette and Flora Belle (Johnson) Durdin. Prior to moving to the Hill Country 22 years ago, Mr. Durdin lived in Seminole, Texas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was noted for being able to catch fish on a bare hook. South Texas was a favorite hunting ground, especially for arrowheads. Other pastimes included reading westerns and playing golf. He worked for the Atlantic Pipeline for over 30 years; his career in the oil field began in 1945 in Woodsboro, Texas at the young age of 15. He was a member of Kingsland Community Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Durdin, of Kingsland, Tex., three children: Carole Steindorff of Bastrop, Tex., and Gary Durdin and Kelly Durdin of Kingsland, Tex., four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Beth Hellerstedt and staff at Texas Oncology, Seven North nurses at Seton Hospital, Hill Country Home Health, and Llano Memorial Hospice. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Putnam Funeral Home in Kingsland, TX. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2005 at Kingsland Community Church. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet, TX. Rev. Tommie Beck and Rev. Kristin Galle will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Memorial and Honor Program, Highland Lakes Unit, PO Box 1834, Kingsland, TX 78639 and American Heart Association, Capital Area Division, PO Box 16169, Austin, TX 78761-6169. Arrangements are made by Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, TX 78639, 325-388-0008.
