Jack Dillard Obituary

Jack Dillard Jack Dillard passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2010, after valiantly battling leukemia for 4 years. He was born in Lubbock to parents Mae and Virgil Dillard on February 10, 1947. After graduating from Lubbock High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country from Jan. 1966 - Dec. 1968, two of those years in Vietnam. He attended Texas Tech and remained an avid Red Raider football fan all his life. His entire career was spent in construction management and sales. Survivors include Teresa (wife), Sharon (sister) and Pat, Ira and Sally, Ellen, Lawrence, Shane, Matt, Dr. Julie, Kay, Rowdy, Laurie, and more family and friends. Special thanks to incredible doctors: Brian Shimkus, Doug Rivera, Art Frankel, and Jason Melear. Extra thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice, especially Kit. Family will welcome guests at Teresa and Jack's home on Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Jack donated his body to LIFELEGACY for medical research and education, hoping that it will help in the fight against blood cancers. Memorial contributions may be made to http://pages.lightthenight.org/sctx/AustinL10/TDillard or to the charity of your choice.

The message of Sept 2010 appears to be the one I wrote as that describes our friendship and a crush in Elementary School and a nice luncheon when He was very ill and he gave me his old Matthews Directory. Miss this guy. Connie Goolsby Bray joined us that day. I still think of Jackie alot.

Teresa,

Jackie will always be "Jackie" to me as we were friends even in the second grade in Lubbock. I had this kid crush on him then and we remained friends throughout the high school years as we grew into adults. Jackie was always smiling and always seemed focussed on what he needed to do. He always carried himself well, even to the end. He recently told me that he did not want anyone to think he was a "wimp", but his booming deep voice and his good attitude always left me feeling that he was strong and it was hard to believe that he was ill. He is a precious friend who took the time, when he was not feeling well at all, to have lunch with his old friends and kids from the neighborhood (45 years ago)! What a jewel among men! He will be missed.
