I was a member of the first TMATE class back in 86-87; Dr. Boyd was for us, along with many other education students, the model teacher. I truly believe any success I have had as a teacher is attributable to him. We saw the teaching cycle and effective schools philosophy in practice every time we were in his presence.
I understand from visiting with his sister in Georgetown that he retained his positive outlook even in the throes of ALS. I cannot imagine otherwise.
Although I do not know his family, I hope you will all know that ultimately, he is continuing to impact thousands of students every day as the hundreds of us who were Dr. Boyd's students teach.
Thank you for sharing him with us.

Jim taught an education class at Tarleton State University that was truly the foundation for my teaching career. His enthusiasm and dedication will always be remembered and admired. He modeled teaching for his students every time he presented a lesson. Godspeed to all his family.

Mrs. Boyd, may God bless you through this time of transition and sorrow.

Velada,
You know but I want others to know that I knew Dr. Boyd as a colleague at Tarleton. I say Dr. Boyd because that was what I always said, not because he didn't give permission to say Jim but because his position and behavior called for the respect that went with the title. I remember him as a kind and gracious man who had a large part in a major change in direction of the college. I think of the article you wrote for the coop magazine not long after the two of you moved "back to the country". It gives me a glimpse of the good years you had.

Dr. Boyd was truly a leader in the field of education for the entire state of Texas. The impact that he had on the lives and career of educators is seen every day in the classrooms across this state.
It truly was my privilege to know Dr. Boyd as both a professor and a colleague who had an incredible impact on what I do today as a school superintendent.

James was a year ahead of me in school and I can only remember him as a "wild and crazy" guy who knew every Texas State Trooper on a first name basis I'm sure. He seemed to always be the brunt of the "speeding" jokes that were going around.
I am truly in awe of the things that James went on to accomplish during his young years on this earth. He has obviously left a WONDERFUL legacy for his children and grandchildren to admire, follow and to be proud of.
I'm one of many who is extremely grateful for having had the pleasure of knowing him during those "crazy" high school years.
Thank you, James, for the memories that will always remain.
In Christ's love,

My dear Jimmy,
It has truly been an honor to be your cousin. You were an inspiration to us all. You will be missed by all of us left here on earth and I can only imagine what a family reunion it was when you got to heaven. What a site that must have been!
With much love and true respect,
