Jeffrey Bodenman Obituary

Jeffrey David Bodenman was surrounded by his family when he lost his fight against cancer on October 20, 2025. Beloved for his smart commentary, dry sense of humor, and magnetic charisma, Jeff was a devoted father, husband, and friend.
Jeff's legacy for making a strong impression began the day he was born. He entered the world with such speed that he was delivered by his father at home in Austin, aided only by a 911 phone call. Two days later, a newborn Jeff and his parents were featured on the front page of the Austin American-Statesman.
In his youth, Jeff was a strong student and stellar baseball player at McCallum High School. His success on the baseball diamond earned him an athletic scholarship to Southwestern University, where he played for 3 seasons. After graduating in 2005, his professional experience in the securities and commercial real estate industries brought him to Dallas and then back to his hometown of Austin, where he would eventually meet the love of his life.
Jeff met his wife, Meredith Sanger, in 2011 through mutual friends. He was drawn to her quick wit, intelligence, and beauty, and she found an equal in his sense of humor. They were married on Lake Austin on October 15, 2016, witnessed by a small group of family, friends, and swans. A larger crowd gathered to celebrate their nuptials at Donn's Depot, one of Jeff's favorite spots in Austin. Jeff had a great sense of style and a pulse on the best places to be; his friends knew whether Jeff was in charge of the menu or the playlist, they were bound to have a good time.
In February of 2022, Jeff and Meredith welcomed their daughter, Beatriz Marie Bodenman. BB resembles Jeff both in appearance and personality, having inherited his ability to throw a baseball and inability to tolerate messiness. Jeff delighted in doting on his little girl - throwing her high in the pool to make a big splash and giving each character a silly voice while reading to her - and BB had Jeff wrapped around her little finger.
Jeff will be remembered as smart, incredibly funny, charming, loyal, and at times stubborn. He loved being an uncle (both by blood and by choice) and spending time with his many friends. We will always think of him while we do the things he enjoyed most: traveling, playing golf, listening to rap music, watching Longhorn Football, and cheering for BB in all her endeavors.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Meredith; their daughter, Beatriz; his mother, Mary Lou Bodenman; his father, David Bodenman, and stepmother, Sue Edwards; sister Sarah Harold, brother-in-law David Harold, their children James and Julia Harold; brother Paul Bodenman and sister-in-law, Madeleine Grandbois; in-laws Dr. Philip Sanger and Bea Sanger, and sister-in-law Andrea Sanger, and other extended family members and life-long friends.
The Bodenman family thanks the Sanger family, particularly Meredith and Dr. Philip Sanger, for their incredible and unwavering advocacy and care for Jeff throughout his battle with cancer. Their dedication, tenacity, creativity, and love provided additional time, quality of life, and hope. They also thank the caring staff at St. David's Medical Center, Texas Oncology, Austin Gastroenterology, and Jeff's friends for their support in his final year.
A memorial service will be held on November 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Thurman's Mansion. In lieu of flowers, Jeff would be the first to ask you to book your colonoscopy. You may also consider making a donation to AGE of Central Texas, CancerCare, or the Cancer Research Institute.

My deepest sympathy to the Bodenman family. Our family lived around the corner from the Bodenman´s when the children were young. Jeff was the "little brother" who delighted the somewhat older children. What a tragedy the loss of this wonderful, loving person is for those who knew him and for the wider Austin community.

Jeff was a stabilizing force and the ultimate dad! He had a virtuous sense of right and wrong and called it when he needed to. He was always friendly and respectful to everyone. I know his stellar ways will live through his daughter and I hope she remembers the good times. He will be so so missed.

Jeff had such a beautiful and heart warming life story and legacy. Although I never met him, I've had the pleasure of knowing his wonderful father, who was my classmate throughout high school. What an amazing family! My thoughts and prayers are with Jeff's parents, wife and all of his famiy members. With love and sympathy, Debbie Murphy
