I am so sorry to just now be reading this about John. He was our attorney and represented us in a counter law suit when my deceased husband's parents and I were sued after my husband's tragic death in 1990-91. Please accept my sincere condolence for your loss. John was so kind and helpful to us and I will never forget him. He had such compassion and kindness for all my family. He was dedicated to our case and became a friend to my sister in law. We were very apreciative for all he did to guide us and help us during a very difficult time in our lives. I am deeply shocked to just now hear of his passing. I know the pain you feel in losing him. My heart and prayers go out to all of you. Sincerely and with sorrow, Rosa McKendrick (deceased John S McKendrick widow) and family.

John was a very special man, an exceptional lawyer and a great friend. Every time we saw each other we talked about baseball but he was the kind of person who was always available for advice and counsel on any subject. He had impeccable judgment and an empathy and love for others that is sometimes hard to find in our profession. We will miss you John. Hook 'Em Horns.

In the 1980's, John and I were on opposite sides in a case involving the secret formula of Pace picante sauce. The case got nationwide publicity because of the catchy subject, i.e, arguing over the secret picante sauce. I had food scientist as
an expert witness with two PhD's from Texas A&M, and John had as his expert, my expert's professor. We were trying our case without any publicity until a roving newspaper reporter came in the courtroom and saw probably 50 bottles of picante sauce on the shelf in front of the jury. The next day the headlines were "HOT SAUCE CASE HEATS COURT". Newspaper reporters left the Judge John H. Wood murder trial and come over to the state courthouse to report on picante sauce case. One day the case had to be postpones because a juror got sick. The next day the headline was "JUROR CAN'T STOMACK HOT SAUCE CASE". I enjoyed trying the case against John.

I was very fortunate to have John as my mentor when I began practicing law in the early 1980s. I learned about the practice of law and so much more from him. Even after we no longer practiced together he was always willing to share his wisdom and advice. He was a great lawyer, person, and friend.

I practiced law with John for 10 years. John was a great mentor and a great lawyer. He was one of the most principled and ethical lawyers I have every known. John was a fearless advocate for his clients and his word was his bond. My condolences to his wonderful family. RIP John.

Had not had any contact with John in several years. In the late 80"s I was privileged to have a number of cases that he defended. John was respectful, straightforward and co-operative. He was also very wise and smart. I always learned something helpful from him in every case. After every depo we always wound up talking about baseball. My catching career at Notre Dame was not as impressive or lengthy as his at Texas. I do not know where John is right now but I know it is a better place because he is there. RIP friend!

I met John when he was an AUSA in an appointed case before Judge Adrian Spears. We went around and around on the case but became friends for the next 50 years and I always enjoyed our robust meetings . On another occasion I was in state presiding and a case was called for a former Marine and John announced on his behalf and stated that he always represented Marines on a pro bono basis. He was a man of conviction and will be remembered with great fondness.

John was a terrific lawyer, a gentleman, and quite a character. He was so entertaining to work with or against. I always learned something new in my cases with John. I can picture him walking briskly to the courthouse, slouched over, cigar in mouth and wearing a straw hat. Great memories. The legal community will surely miss him, as will I. RIP and God Bless John.

Mr. Pinckney was such a great guy. I enjoyed hearing his stories as he walked around the office - and seeing him walking with the unlit cigar in his mouth as he came into the office. My prayers go out to his lovely wife and their family (including their adorable doggy).

I first met John 37 years ago as a "baby lawyer" in San Antonio. His ever present cigar and rumpled hat (his "trademarks") only served to further his persona as a character who was fun to be around. He was one of the great lawyers in San Antonio that helped shape many a young lawyer's career and behavior as lawyers (including mine). He was truly one of a kind. Rest in Peace, my Friend.

John was a hellava lawyer and one of the most down to earth persons I have ever had the privilege to know. I was enjoyed working with him and our visits about many subjects but always Longhorn baseball. I especially miss seeing him and our visits at the Disch. John W. Robb, Frost Bank(retired).
