John Michael Sobieski John Michael Sobieski, age 79 of Seguin, passed away on April 4, 2011. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. John was born to the late Hortense and John Sobieski, May 17, 1931, in San Antonio, TX. John graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Mildred Sobieski, on New Years Eve in 1959, and they lived in Austin, Houston, and Dallas, until retiring in Seguin in 1997. John was a music industry pioneer for 35 years, serving as a distribution manager and eventually Vice President of Anderson Merchandising. He spent weekends officiating several sports, both on the high school and collegiate levels. John's favorite pastime was cruising the lake in his boat, enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. He was also an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Seguin, TX for many years. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Millie Sobieski of Seguin; daughter, Shari Dixon and husband Michael of Lakeway, TX; four grandchildren, Clint Dixon and wife Caitie, Rachelle Dixon, Jaclyn Dixon and Zachary Dixon; three great-granddaughters, Aubrey, Avery and Emma; numerous other family and friends. John is preceded in death by his only son, Christopher, who was killed in 2004 while on duty with the Prairie View Police Department, his parents and his sisters, Dorothy McInnis and Elynor Brann. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Christopher House, Hospice Austin, for their loving and attentive care of John.
