Jonathan Terry Andrews was born November 14, 1944, in Austin, Texas. He was the oldest of five children born to John Rabb Andrews and Dorothy Turpen Andrews. He passed away peacefully at his home in San Marcos, Texas, on May 14, 2024 after battling cancer.
Terry was brought up in a Christian home and was very active in First Baptist Church throughout his formative years, as well as being an avid baseball fan, a little league baseball player, and a Boy Scout. He graduated from Travis High School in 1963, and The University of Texas at Austin in 1977. He was retired from the City of Austin Water Department after a 22-year career.
Terry served honorably in the US Army from 1965 to 1967, and thoroughly enjoyed his duty station at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, which allowed him to see a good portion of Alaska.
Terry met his wife, Cathy McDonald, at Southwest Texas State University in September 1968. They became engaged a month later, married in April 1969, and welcomed their daughter Heather in June of 1972.
Terry loved kids and served as a Sunday School Teacher and Royal Ambassadors Leader, and a little league baseball and softball coach in the South Austin and Buda areas. He especially enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Terry and Cathy enjoyed road trips and hiking. He was especially proud of his three hikes in and out of the Grand Canyon, one of which was a rim-to-rim trip.
Terry and Cathy enjoyed living on his ranch property in San Saba County from 2016 to 2020, when they returned to the Austin/San Marcos area for an "easier" life and to be closer to family and friends.
Terry will forever be remembered for his quick wit, wicked sense of humor, his generosity, and deep abiding love of God, family, friends, and the outdoors.
Terry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cathy McDonald Andrews; daughter Heather Andrews Scott (Randy Scott); grandson Nathan Scott (Jessica), granddaughters Holly Scott (Isaac Lawlor) and Samantha Scott; great-grandsons Robert ("RJ") and Ben Scott; brothers Gary, Tommy, and Billy Andrews; sister, Jonthy Williams; and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas. Visitation is at 11:00 AM with service to follow at noon.
