Family-Placed Obituary

Julian Davis Sewell Aug. 2, 1917 - Nov. 16, 2004 Julian D. Sewell, long time resident of Jacksonville, Florida, went to join his heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, after a brief stay at Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas. He was born in Deland, Florida on August 2, 1917. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, attended the University of Florida, and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served as a Navigator/Lieutenant. Mr. Sewell was a self-employed accountant who served his clients in the Jacksonville area for many years. He was active in the state and national accounting organizations, having held many leadership positions, including President of the National Society of Public Accountants in the 70 s. His civic involvement included Lions Club, Westside Business Leaders Club, Sertoma Club, Riverside Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 137, and the Young at Heart organization at Murray Hill United Methodist church, where he was a member for over 50 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Sallie Sewell, five siblings, and a son, Julian Davis Sewell, Jr. Surviving him are his son, James D. Sewell, his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Tom Stevenson, his grandchildren, Allyson and T.J. Stevenson, and his ex-wife, Alyce G. Snead. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, a daughter-in-law, Ruby Sewell, and four other grandchildren, Della Dean, Dave Sewell, Will Sewell, and Kenneth Sewell, as well as their children, all of who reside in the Atlanta area. Mr. Sewell lived at the Heartland Nursing Home in Austin since 2003. His family is very grateful to the staff there who were so caring and attentive during his residency. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will be at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home on Edgewood Avenue on Friday, November 19th from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. Candace McKibben and Rev. Nathan Boles at Murray Hill United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in his memory to the Cor-Well Foundation, 4604 Mantle Drive, Austin, Texas, 78746.
