Karen Krings Obituary

Karen Lyn Krings Karen Lyn Krings died peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at San Diego Hospice in San Diego, California after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Her mother, Marilyn D. Krings from Jupiter, Florida and her father John E. Krings and his wife Barbara from Austin, Texas were with her. Karen's brothers, Kent and Kirk from Malibu, and Joseph Kerry from Carmel were with Karen during her last few days. In 1955, Karen was born in Nagoya, Japan, grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from McClure High School. She graduated with a BS degree in Computer Science Engineering from the UCSB. Karen settled in La Jolla. She worked for General Dynamics, CSC, and for the last 10 years with Booz Allen & Hamilton. Karen was a traveler, skier, snowboarder and scuba diver. More recently, she spent much of her time with her bulldogs, Carleton and Lizette and with Bulldog Rescue. Karen had great times in St. Louis, Colorado, Santa Barbara and La Jolla. She loved the Navy from her kindergarten days at PAX River, to Tailhook 91 and Happy Hour at the Miramar Officers Club, then her recent dedication to her Navy client in San Diego. Karen was a Catholic and received Viaticum a few days before her death. She chose not to have any Memorial service. Friends wishing to remember Karen can contribute to the Karen Krings Memorial, San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave, San Diego, CA 92103.

Jack, Marilyn, Barbara, Kent, Kirk, and Kerry: I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help at this time. I'm glad to have been a close friend and roomate of Karen's during her UCSB years. She was a brides maid in my wedding and the hostess of my baby shower. She was a close friend I'll always remember. I am thinking of you and your family during this sad time.

To all who loved Karen: I'm so very sorry for your (our) loss. Karen was like a sister to me for so many years that we lived together. She was a very influential force in my life. Although she chose to remain secluded lately, she showed her love for those she cared about by writing cards and letters. She was the only person I've ever known to keep dates of anniversaries and birthdays of non-family members. Her compassion and love carried over to her decision to take in foster animals. I am very sad to hear of Karen's passing, but take comfort in the knowledge that she is with our Lord in heaven, and also with her beloved animals.

To Marilyn, Jack, Barbara, Kent, Kirk and Kerry, our deepest heartfelt sympathy on Karen's passing. As her neighbors for the past several years we had the pleasure of talking with her almost daily as she walked her bulldogs Carleton and Elizabeth and most recently Lizette. Karen's love of animals was so evident as she traipsed up the slope next to us to make sure the birds and squirrels were taken care of along with her flowers--we teasingly called her the bird lady of La Jolla and she loved it. Her genuine warmth, sincerity and beauty were self-evident and we will miss her friendship and radiant smile. Every time we look toward her house, which she so proudly remodeled, from our balcony where we used to have our daily chats with her, it sadly reminds us of her and how we miss her "How's it going?" greetings. We know that our solace is the knowledge that she is no longer in pain on this Earth and is walking with Elizabeth in God's heavenly country. Karen's generous spirit will always remain a memory in our hearts.

Sadly,I just heard the news of karen's passing today.(5/1). I had met Karen a few years ago through her love for small animals. Her passion for them, especially her dogs shone through her. Her passion, courage in the face of this illness and compassionate nature was a wonderful gift that I was honored to see. I regret that I was not able to see her one last time to say farewell but knowing Karen I am sure she will understand. I would love to honor Karen's memory in some way through our small animal rescue,in time I will know the best way for that to be done.In the mean time, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and close friends.I did not know her very long but she touched my heart and she will inspire me for a long time.

In addition the nurses at Scripps Green Hospital send their condolences.

To dear Marilyn, Jack, Barbara, Kent, Kirk & Kerry. What a picture perfect writeup, that described your beautiful daughter/sister, Karen Lyn Krings to a T! I shed tears for my friend again this morning and continue to feel her loss. Karen's short life on earth was one of marked contribution, beauty and charm and I will forever count my blessings to have crossed paths with her in this lifetime and to have been dear friends. There has never been another I have been so spiritually connected to, which is such a gift to me. We truly spoke the same language. Both Tony & I feel so fortunate to have been part of Karen's life and to have met each of you. What a wonderful family Karen has. Thank you so much for making me feel such a part of Karen's life as she journeyed to the end of it here on earth. Our gal has successfully made it to the other side; she is with her Father, she honored, trusted and loved him with all her heart. What strength Karen had in her journey. God Bless each of you, I will continue to keep you all in my prayers, I know the path you walk is a difficult one. Peace be with you, with love to you all
