Kay Tate Obituary

Kay (Ernestine) Tate Kay (Ernestine) Tate passed away on October 21 at age 94. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Jack Tate, and two children-Kerry Tate of Austin and Scott Tate of Many, Lousiana. Kay was born in Mansfield, Lousiana on May 8, 1917 to parents Joseph Ernest Norris and Eva Annie Bishop Norris as the third of four children. She lived and worked in the Southeast Texas towns of Orange, Beaumont and Vidor for 63 years before moving to Austin 13 years ago. Her husband, Jack, retired after 40 years service at Mobil Oil in Beaumont, where they met and married. Kay Tate was an extraordinary woman of America's greatest generation--a wonderful wife and mother, complete homemaker, gifted gardener, seamstress and a faithful Christian devoted to her church. She charted decades of Tate family travels throughout the United States and then, later in retirement, to Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand. A good writer, Kay preserved lasting memories of places, people and experiences in delightful travel journals she authored. Kay was pre-deceased by three brothers--Harry, Garland and Joe. She is survived by two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Danny, and two nephews, Jan Norris of Houston and Harlan Norris of Colorado. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Mondy, October 24, 2011 at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4600 Manchaca Rd, Austin, TX. Interment will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park. Memorial gifts in Kay's honor may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4600 Manchaca Road, Austin 78745.

Dear Kerry and Uncle Jack, Thinking of you so much at this time and wishing I could have been there in Austin with the family. Kerry, I am remembering your mother, whom I always knew as "Sister" and of what a rich and full life and wonderfully long and loving marriage she had.
She was blessed and I remember her with warmth always.
Much love,
