L.R. Hollingsworth Obituary

L.R. Hollingsworth Jr. L.R. Hollingsworth Jr., son of Louis Robert Hollingsworth Sr. and Martha Eleanor Campbell passed away on October 20, 2010. He was born in the Rio Grande Valley on November 5, 1922. He married Cecelia Anne Boyd of Dallas, Texas, on April 28, 1956. They have three children, Mary Anne Groda of Beeville, Texas, Jane Elizabeth Bourne of Austin, Texas, and Rob Hollingsworth of Washington D.C., also, three grandchildren, Kris Groda and wife Lena, Bobby and David Hollingsworth, and three great grandchildren. L.R. Hollingsworth, Jr. was educated in the public schools of Harlingen, Texas. He attended Southern Methodist University, 1940-1943, majoring in finance and accounting. While there, he was a member of Kappa Sigma (Social Fraternity) and Alpha Kappa Psi (Business Honor Society). His education was interrupted by World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He took part in several invasions in the Pacific Theater of Operations and also in the occupation of Japan. After the war, he returned to SMU, receiving a BBA degree in January 1947. He worked in fields of ranching and banking and returned to active duty in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1950 through 1951. After being released as a full Lt., he worked in banking and bank examination fields until 1955. He settled in Beeville, Texas in 1955 and worked in the accounting department of a local oil company. In 1966 he became the Bee County Auditor and remained in that position until his retirement in 1986. He has served his community as a Vestryman and Treasurer and Senior Warden of St. Philips Episcopal Church, President of Beeville Rotary, and President of Glenwood-St. Joseph's Cemetery Foundation of Beeville. He served in several offices of the Texas Association of County Auditors and was their President in 1982-1983. In Retirement L. R. Hollingsworth, Jr. took up the study of genealogy, gardening and reading as hobbies.
