Loren Ray Orme

Loren Ray Orme, 85, of Hutto, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025. He was born on July 26, 1939, to Aubrey Desmond Orme and Zelma Lois Hobbs.

Loren graduated from McCallum High School in 1958, where he met the love of his life, Betty Green. They married in June 1959 and shared nearly 66 wonderful years. He was a devoted husband, father, and PawPaw and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great-granddaughter Olivia Monzingo-Greenwood, son-in-law Alan Monzingo, and brother-in-law Bob Green. He is survived by his wife Betty; son Steve Orme (Jennifer); daughter Dr. Denise Monzingo; brother Winfred Orme (Judy); sister Valerie Endreson (Harlan); sister-in-law Dionne Green; six grandchildren: Erik Orme, Megan Monzingo (Otis), Morgan Snow (Ian), Madison Monzingo, Mason Monzingo, and Jayme Ward (Taylor); and three great-grandchildren: Ava, Eli, and Ryan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In 1972, Loren was elected Mayor of Pflugerville and helped establish the Deutschenfest, a tradition still celebrated today.

Loren began his law enforcement career with Travis County Sheriff T.O. Lang as the youngest Deputy Sheriff in county history. He rose to Chief Deputy before joining the Capitol Police, where he became Captain. While working alongside the Secret Service at the Capitol, he was privileged to attend training in Washington, D.C. He completed his 38-year career with the Department of Public Safety, retiring as Lieutenant.

Loren was a member of Solomon Masonic Lodge #484, the Scottish Rite, and the Ben Hur Shrine. He served in many leadership roles, including Potentate of Ben Hur Temple and President of the Texas Shrine Association in 2000.

In retirement, Loren and Betty traveled across Europe and the U.S., forming lasting friendships through the Ben Hur Travel Club. Loren and Betty were members of Hutto Discovery United Methodist Church and volunteered for years with the Hutto Food Pantry, now the Hutto Resource Center, reflecting their deep care for the community.

Services will be held at Hutto Discovery United Methodist Church in Hutto, TX, on Thursday, May 8th at 2 pm.
