Marian Moore Obituary

Marian Miner Moore, born October 27, 1928, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Marian was the third child born to Louisa Belle Kollock and Howard Dwight Miner in Indianapolis, Indiana. She earned a B.A. Degree in Psychology from DePauw University, and married her college sweetheart, Charles Lane Moore, shortly thereafter. Marian and Lane were married for 67 years until Lane passed away in 2018.

Marian was a devoted wife and mother in Webster Groves, Missouri, raising her two children Dirk and Jan and volunteering in various organizations. She was an active member of Webster Hills United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. Her interest in Bible study and youth work led her to pursue a Master of Divinity degree from Eden Seminary in 1975. She was Director of Education at Kirkwood United Methodist Church in Kirkwood, Missouri, for seven years. She was consecrated a Diaconal Minister in 1978. She worked as a consultant for churches in the Missouri East Conference before serving on the staff of the United Methodist Church of Green Trails in Chesterfield, Missouri for four years. Marian enjoyed the process of helping churches create interesting and exciting programs for children and youth. She attended many national conferences of the Christian Educators Fellowship of the United Methodist Church, and also served on the Missouri East Conference Board of Diaconal Ministry.

Upon retirement, Marian and Lane moved to Austin, Texas, to be closer to their daughter and her family. Her greatest joys were being with her family and watching her five grandchildren grow up. She loved traveling, reading, art, and music. She was a member of the Austin Shakespeare Club. She and Lane sang in the choir at their church, Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, and with the Texas Choral Consort. They traveled with TCC to Ireland, Wales, Germany and Austria.

Marian is survived by her two children, Dirk (married to Lynne) and Jan (married to Chip); grandchildren Heather (and her partner Ellen), Molly (and fiancé Ryan), Rian, Kimberly (married to Mike) and Vanessa (married to Dan); and great-grandsons Calvin and Andre.

Marian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a faithful and active member of every church she joined, and a brave pioneer in pursuing mid-life higher education and teaching others how to make learning interesting. Marian was also a talented painter right up to the end of her life. She was an intelligent, faithful, modest, and courageous woman who exemplified grace and generosity, and who inspired us all to be the same.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5th, at 10:30 a.m. at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, 7050 Village Center Drive in Austin.

Memorial gifts may be made to Northwest Hills United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry to hear that Ms. Marian died in September. I have been her piano tuner for 25 years; she and Lane were faithful to tune and to take lessons. We have exchanged Christmas cards for many years, so I was alarmed when hers came back to me today. I wish I could reach out to Jan or Dirk to express my condolences. Plus, I have all of the maintenance information for her piano.
I am truly sad... I last saw her in April, and she was quiet and delightful as usual.

I am at auh of all the stories Marian has had to share with us over the years about things and how life was back then for many.
The video that Jan and her Mom put together for the 2024 Woodlands reunion will be something we all will cherish .
We will miss you Marian .

My memory of my Aunt Marian is when in 2018 we all celebrated her birthday at the Woodlands that year . I took this photo of her and it's a good memory for me.
